well this is rather daft.......

as my gf passed her test couple of months back i was looking into getting her insured on my car. however as i am on my mothers insurance as a named driver we would have to put my gf on as the 3rd named driver.

soooo mother got onto the insurance company couple of months back and they said my gf would have to be at least 21 years of age, fair enough i think. my gf's birthday is the end of this month so today we got back onto the insurnce company.

now the insurance company is saying they wont have me as a named driver never mind my gf due to the car being so sporty, im 23 , 24 the begining of october and been driving on mothers insurence for 4 years although i dont have any no claims bonus.

when we first set up the insurance (mother being main driver and me being named driver) my mother set it up on the internet, and now the insurance company are saying we only got insured in the first place because we done it online, and they are refusing to let me be insured anymore WTF ?

so now we have canceled the insurance and are looking else where for the 3 of us , how frustrating !

It's referred to as "fronting"

They know your mum isn't the named driver and have refused cover accordingly.

You'll just have to shop around

this could cause you some probs as you have been refused insurance which i believe is recorded - hence the question "have you ever been refused......" - if you answer "no" you will have problems in the event of a claim. another problem you'll now have is your mother is the registered keeper so you cant get your own policy on this car.

another point is your bird is a new driver - do you think its wise to let her drive a powerful car before she has learned to properly drive. most peeps start with a cheap low powered car as it is very likely for a new driver to have a smash in the first year due to inexperience.

Hate it that i have to agree :P

I dont think this is classed as properly refused insurance though as its car related ( as you say young drive powerful car), typically that's when insurance companies refuse to insure you because they think your a fraudster, however the main driver not being the main driver is dodgy, but lets not start that up again!

Daz, if your Mrs had a crash as a named but newly qualified driver the insurance co would try their best to get out of paying due to her inexperience. Try someone like Adrian Flux and if in truth Daz you are the main driver declare this, tell them you were on your mums policy for years and she has the no claims bonus, the more info you give them i.e your Mrs will drive rarely & your mums on the policy, you could get a good price - Just be straight with them
