Got a set of General Grabber UHPs fitted yesterday.

Unlike most General Grabber Tyres, the letters are not coloured white and wondering if they would look better painted?

Only done the rear one to demonstrate the difference :D

Option 1: Plain as supplied

Option 2: Painted Letters

Option 3: Painted Letter outlines

I would just outline, but look at it the other way -if you use it for proper offroading the rocks etc on tracks can take the paint off :D as can kerbs- not that you would curb the tyre. :2guns:

I think the above 0pt2 makes it look quite rugged, but not to evones taste, a mate of mine has got a new kia 4x4, and has had his tyres whitewalled i laughed when he told me but surprisingly it looks quite smart, What did you use to do it Hoovie? cos somewhere i have a special marker for doing that..

I bought a marker and did one letter on the old tyre to have a look, but wasn't sure either way :g:, so thought I would canvas opinion of the esteemed members of the TOC

I likey..

Only thing I would say is what is the quality of the tyre paint you've bought?......

I tried similar type tyre lettering paint a few years ago and it yellowed and cracked very quickly - to the extent I ended up removing it altogether as it just looked Naff.

I am not even going to ask how you did it on your computer  but as your rear is exposed why not just do that, THINK I COULD HAVE PHRASED THAT BETTER

Option 2 for me.

I am waiting for the time I need to change my tires to buy some with white lettering....

I bought the marker to paint them myself when I used to have an HRV but it is not easy to do as tires are full of that *****ty oily stuff that we put on the tires to make them shinny......

it is a bit annoying that they didn't do the lettering as standard like the rest of their range.

You could try a scrubbing brush and sugar soap to clean the gunk off the rubber to put lettering on

Congrats on selecting a great tyre.

But I think you should leave it black... they look great by themselves. There should be no need to overdo it.

Lo y'all....

I say paint the tyre and leave the writing Black....

In my younger days... I had a ford escort 1.3 with the RS turbo kit on it... the tyres were Michellins and I thought they would look ok with the brand and tyre name painted in white... so I did it and thought yep thats nice.... Never done it since...

But yep if you have the time to do it - paint the letters.... I think it looks good... but as someone mentioned earlier, if you take it off-roading then the paint will fade

Regards

Rob

painting the letters on tyres IMO is a waste of time, not only do they fade from white to a dirty yellowish off road or on once done they are forever asking to be re-painted, so not much time spent on driving the vehicle as this can take up a lot of your time, must admit they do look nice when first done but ask yourself how much time is required from yourself keeping up the the nice white print that can be ruined in seconds by kerbing or off roading at the end of the day you will do what you think best.

I appreciate the comments as I honestly wasn't sure which way to go :)

That is an interesting option

Clever if not sure if you like it or not

Hmmmm .... look smart for a while, then very 2nd hand

So I think they are gonna stay as they are (black), but for fun I may take up Local Heros suggestion of painting the spare and maybe using cabcurtains tip of tippex initially just to see :D

Cheers, Guys

Hoovie

I had voted ("leave it black") but am currently in the "Land of the Free", specifically "Live Free or Die" territory, and there are gazillions of enormous SUVs and mighty-meaty 4x4s and a lot of them have white outlines - the Dueller A/T looks especially fetching. I was going to take some pictures of vehicles but Boston's Finest seem to become everso interested in the guy in a suit with the camera photographing other peoples' parked SUVs, so I decided to park that idea, metaphorically. For the time being at least :naughty:
