I shopped around for the intermediate service on my E12 Corolla. My usual dealer quoted around £140 but I found an authorised Toyota service agent (which doesn't sell new Toyotas) that quoted me around £86 and I went for that to try them out. It might be that an authorised service agent has lower overheads hence the lower price.

The basic service should be £150 tops as its an oil & filter only, however once the sundries, lubricants, screenwash, engine flush  etc have been added then it will be more like £200. If you can be strong tell the dealer that you want only the service not all the extra profit lines added.

Because some of us can't afford to have somebody else do it and some of us enjoy doing it. (Changing the oil I mean  )

I dont know lads, way I see it if I bring my car to Toyota all they do is put some apprentice on it who probably knows as much if not less than i do and charge me €80 for the pleasure. Id rather bring it to a respected private garage save some money and have a proper mechanic look at it every 10k. In between at say 5k do an oil change myself and have a general look around it.

If you sleep better at night knowing you have a Toyota service history all good an well, its your money, spend it the way you want, all i know is the more money i have in my account the better I sleep.

Its not a specialist car like a porsche

Exactly, some.

MOST can't do it / Don't know how to do it. THAT'S why they pay people to do it for them, doesn't make them mugs as described by the biggest mug of all in this topic.

If you're bothered about people paying so much, why not start you own oil changing business and see how well it does?

Also.. why even bother replying if your input is going to be of.... 0%? use to anybody... (Yes, I see the irony of my post here...) It seems all you do on here is rip on others.. with the occasional piece of useful knowledge thrown in here and there.

As for money, you can't take it with you when you're gone, use it.

(not aimed at you btw Jon)

You lot don't know you are living

My Daughter brought her Hyundai Coupe to the main dealer, yesterday, for a service = Euro 340

They did my Corolla Executive a few months ago & the price was similar :(

I wouldn't expect to pay less anywhere else here.

I find it very annoying that those who choose to use a dealership or service agent for their service are regarded by some as idiots or second class citizens.

Provided you find a dealership that carries out the work well and at reasonable cost there are advantages. Frankly, there are pros and cons to either Mr T or DIY. You pays your money and takes your choice. I used to DIY-it when I was younger but don't now.

Oh and I doubt that all mechanics are 'monkeys' ..... A sad comment I'm afraid.

In defense of AE102's comments, paying Mr T to change your oil & filter is daylight robbery, however not everyone has access to a reputable independent. Going to the Main dealer means labour charges of £80-£90 Per Hour where as the independent will be £40-£50. As most independents formed there business themselves they will offer a better mechanical service, but they cant offer the coffee and courtesy car. Personally i have the choice of Mr T (As i must have a Courtesy Car) or Saturday Morning at a Friends, the only other choice is take a day off and go to my mates during the week. My holiday entitlement is worth more than the saving.

Also having worked for a car manufacturer when your car is in warranty, not having dealer stamps does affect the outcome of 50/50 warranty claims as there is ultimately a human making the decision as to whether the they will stand the repair cost. It shouldn't following block exemption but sadly it does.

Anyway, each to their own or things would be rather boring........

read before you post!! my book is fully stamped, but for a intermediate its an oil change 30 mins labour. my local indie is more expensive than mr t for labour yet still does an intermediate for £50. my last big service worked out at around £190 but i do get a discount. mr t wanted less but i knew most jobs wouldnt be done, Lindops have been in court for ripping long standing customers. when the indie phoned mr t over the g/box oil they said they dont bother changing it - yet its in the schedule.

useless posts! you can talk - ooh i washed my car today - ooh i painted my l today! never anything of any use just looking for praise - maybe that's why your lil clique's new site is sooooooo good
