haha.....

I don't think I'm tough at all, nor have I ever pretended to be tough. Also...what does working in an office have to do with anything? Now you're just thinking of ways to cause arguements.

Grow up, you're one of the eldest to post in the 'rolla section.

i'm no way near one of the oldest. just sick of your useless info and constantly putting sly digs aimed at me when your recommending crap products to people. because you have very limited knowledge you cant stand that people know more than you and have already been there. you cant retract from what you've posted and i dont suffer fools. if you have anything else to add i work out of Rocksavage.

Haha... Don't make me laugh. It hurts.

Can't think of anymore verbal insults so resort to telling me where you work, and you call others mugs....

I've never thrown any digs in anywhere, I like what I use and find them to work well, if you don't like it, keep it to yourself.

Again, Grow up.

Just getting back to the topic for a second ..

If an intermediate service is just the oil change would an independent garage still do all checks as required by the official service schedule. I've still got the Toyota service sheet from my 20K full which they did before buying the car and there're loads of things to check that relate to later services.

I wonder if they'd normally charge say 30mins for the oil change and another 30 for the checks.

I find it very annoying that those who choose to use a dealership or service agent for their service are regarded by some as idiots or second class citizens.

Provided you find a dealership that carries out the work well and at reasonable cost there are advantages. Frankly, there are pros and cons to either Mr T or DIY. You pays your money and takes your choice. I used to DIY-it when I was younger but don't now.

Oh and I doubt that all mechanics are 'monkeys' ..... A sad comment I'm afraid.

yeah, true sorry for that comment. uncalled for really, i withdraw my comment

they check brakes to see if they can sell you new ones ect and charge you for the priviledge. a good indie will look after you far better as your custom is more valued and they cany afford the bad rep like a lot of main dealers have. take your pick - go were you trust but dont be daft enough to pay £127 for an oil change. them that say cost dont matter had to get finance on alloys - a fool and his money............

Hey,

I've just had my local Mr T on the phone after canceling my service because i wasn't willing to pay £215 for an oil n filter change and another 54 quid onto of that for the MOT.

So they've phoned up (A very nice chap i've dealt with before there) and admitted they've got the price wrong and say for the intermeadiate service its £110 and bcause its my first MOT and i'm having the service done they'll do the MOT for half price :D also sort out my warrenty issue :D

now just to break the nes to my regular mechanic who was supposed to be doing it :(

But a very good price in the end & they pick it up and drop it off

My local indie is more expensive than Mr T for the same service!!

Local indie do all the same checks but cannot offer a courtesy car.

So i fail to see where your arguement has any relevance on the £127 i was quoted from Mr T.

i've just had my 20K service done bout 2 weeks ago at lindops in queensferry, i've gone there few times for jobs with both this corolla an my last one an the guys there are always very helpful, an never felt ripped off once!!!

anyway back to service, cost me £157, that included having a car while mine was in, they even let me drop it day before service an pick up next night as was workin nights, for no extra chgarge.

did get phone call of them sayin front brakes weren't good, which i knew they weren't great anyway, but they were nice an replaced them under warranty (disc an pads)

if i'm gettin this kind of service from Mr T, why would i go anywhere else?????????

My issue with dealers is when they are presented with customers who have little knowledge they say stuff like "your discs and pads are 70% worn and they wont make it to the next service" this scares the customer who says "do it" they then get a £600 bill and the car would have gone on for another 10,000 miles or if its a low mileage driver potentially 2 years. This is all because the service dept is under huge pressure to dealer retail hours as they will have large targets to reach. Whilst not all dealers behave like this, they are all business's who must make profit to pay for the showroom and "free" Coffee. I do appreciate not all independents are whiter than white but a good un is better than a dealer IMO. However this is only after the warranty has expired, until that point i would let the dealer always stamp the book. ;)

I took my Corolla to Grants in Braintree Essex recently for an intermediate service and MoT. Grants are an authorised Toyota service agent but don't sell new Toyotas. I too was told that my brakes pads/ front discs were worn (80% front and 70% rear) BUT Grants said 'no need to panic' and to bring the car back in a few months when they can take a quick look again to see how they are doing re replacement and it would only be the front discs, the rears are ok. I think that was the right way to go in giving good advice to the customer.
