Bleeping Corolla

Hopefully somebody out there can tell me why on earth my car is bleeping at me every time i lock or unlock the thing!

I have a 99 Corolla GS Diesel estate (I know, i am now offically an old man) and it has started bleeping for about 15 seconds every time I lock or unlock the car. I initially thought it was telling me a door was open but the dashboard shows all doors are closed.

The car didn't do this when we got it and it has only become an issue in the last couple of weeks. It is not a major issue but i am slightly worried that the car is trying to tell me something is wrong. Needless to say the manual was no help at all.

Somebody, please help!

Does the car have an alarm?

My mums Avensis had this problem when locking it with an alarm. Nothing was open but it turned out to be a dodgy bonnet alarm sensor.

Count the number of beeps - different numbers of beeps from the TVIS mean different things. Once you've got a count, either scrounge the net, or call Mr T for a quick diagnosis.

Thank you gents,

I think i am going to have to bite the bullet, take it to Mr T and ask him what is going on. A Toyota mechanic will hopefully be able to tell me immediately why its acting up. I do have a rear fog light out but i can't imagine a Corolla checks itself that thoroughly does it?

Still rather annoyed with the manual though, if you are going to produce a car that beeps when something is wrong, at least list what it all means!

Cheers

Managed to crack the problem but not sure how! Counted the beeps as suggested and then simply googled '16 beeps on locking toyota corolla.'

It came up with this previous forum topic:

16 Beeps

After reading through it i thought that i would try to pull the integration relay to see if it was 'logic lock-up' as suggested towards the end of the string. Pulled a couple of things with wires attached and hey presto, problem gone!

It is only now that i have reread the above string that whatever it was i pulled, it was not the integration relay! Still, problem solved and well worth randomly pulling out things with wires attached in your fuse panel if anybody else gets a similar problem!

Cheers for the help.

Andy
