Listening To My Ipod Via The Aux

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a Aygo and I have been trying to get the latest ipod nano to play though the aux on the car stereo using this cable which I get from Halfords. But i get the following problems

  • I have to turn the volume on the stereo to at 40 (at least) to hear anything. - which is problem if you then switch to radio without adjusting the volume back down first.
  • Listening to something something other then music i.e a podcast from bbc radio one the volume has to be at 40 but I also get an un wanted noise in the background
  • Basically bad sound quality

So is it the cable ? Is it the socket on my ipod*? is it the aux socket on the stereo?

* I get no problems with sound quality when i plug in my own non-ipod ear buds.

So can anyone help me please?

Problem is all three combined...

Get yourself a cable with a 3,5mm jack on one end and a 30 pin dock connector on the other end.

They can usually be found on eBay for a couple of pounds, mostly the retractable kind.

The line-out on the dock connector provides a much cleaner signal, with an impedance that's more matched

to the input for the radio. The signal is also independant of the volume setting on your iPod, so easier to set up.

Ok thankyou fingers crossed that it does the job well :)

Does an Ipod have an option for output to be set for headphones or line out? If so set to lineout.

Nope, iPods don't have that setting, as they have a DEDICATED line-out on the Dock-conector.

I did a test on the AUX-in on another radio with an iPod nano 2G connected to either the headphone jack

or through the dock-connector and the difference in sound was even more than I'd expected...

I'm glad my Kenwood uses the Dock-connector by default, as it provides control of the iPod too...

The iPod nano dock (about £20 I think) sits nicely on the flat bit above the stereo, and then you can connect a 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack lead from the Line Out on the back of the dock to the Aux In socket.

Hi

My story regarding Ipod and the AUX jack. I bought a Pocket-amp V2 from http://www.electric-avenues.com and fit it under the dashboard with velcro tape. Sound improvment was good, but I got crazy to deal with the cables everytime I got in or out the car, and I still wasn't satisfied with the sound (can't play loud) So I bought a new head unit: Pioneer DEH-50UB with full Ipod control. I have 6 original Speakers and Toyotas sub under the passenger seat and I must say now it play really OK! The good thing with the Pioneer that a USB cable is included, so just use your original Ipod cable and plug it in (it will charge your Ipod too). Or use any Hard disc drive with USB for music, beats any multiple cd drive.

I don't work for Pioneer
