Lift Problem

please help. I drive a 2001 190 VVTLI which has lost its lift above 6200 revs.

I previously posted on this issue and tried some of the suggestions but still have the problem.

The engine management light is NOT on

I have replaced the lift bolts one of which was broken

I have removed the oil control valve cleaned it and the filter, checked the valve was functioning by putting power on to it

I then put an LED on to the wires to the oil control valve, I expected that the valve would only get power at about 6000 revs to allow the oil through and change the lift but the led lit as soon as the ignition was turned on and stayed lit while i drove the car and revved to above 6000

I am now thinking that it might be the ECU, can these be repaired by reprogramming and were are they located on the car

Any ideas ?????? :crybaby:

It's a known issue with the VVTLi engine. Your lift bolts have more than likely sheared or become worn.

The good news is, any Toyota garage worth a damn with know about it as there was a TSB some years back for it. The bad news is, if they have sheared or split, it's a head off job. If you're at all mechanically minded, you can check them yourself by removing the bolts and inspecting the ends..

If it's not that check your oil pressure.

Failing that, how many miles have you done? It could just be a worn head/cam.

EDIT - just re-read your post and realise you've already tried everything I suggested! What a dumba55 I am!
