Welcome to the club.

Front or rear?

Can you describe the noise a bit more?

Is it worse when you press the brake.

Is it worse when going around a bend and if so which way?

Cheers

Hi well the noise sounds like dry bearings, where it's coming from it sounds all around one's self, no difference when applying brake or cornering hope this helps.

Sorry to be a pain but I don't know how mechanically minded you are. I am of the opinion that this is a dry squeaking noise (bearings sometimes moan like an aeroplane with propellor engines is flying overhead) and it can be heard quite clearly when you drive the car - right after starting (any speed).

Did it start gradually over a period of time or straight away?

Do you intend looking at this fault yourself or will you have a garage sort it out (do I tell you what to do or do you just want to know what it might be)?

Take a look at this thread;

Those stainlees steel clips in the last photo of the first post make an unbelievable screeching noise if they contact the disc.

You can file them or lever them back with a screwdriver but you may have to remove the pads to do it.

It is also possible for a small stone to get lodged in a brake but you will narrow it down by lowering the windows and trying to determin which wheel is doing it.

Good luck

Following on from anchorman, a cheap way if you're not too mechanical is to put the car thru an MOT - £40 well spent! At least you will know if its safe/not safe and the reason why.

Hi thank you for your help so far, yes putting her though a MOT check might be tha easier option and peace of mind. Apart from that I can't fault these car, I bought my partner a 3 door GX last month which we towed a caravan down to Kent, no hassle well impressed so when we came back off holiday we went straight out and picked up a 5 door GX one as well, now my vauxhall frontera is up for sale. so so impressed with then I should kick myself as I should have bought these cars years ago, yes I got the rav bug. Will keep you all updated on the noise issue many thanks. :rolleyes:
