Door Plastic Bubbled

Hi fellow Rav4 owners!

I'm a recent convert and have a 2002 black 3 door NRG which is fantastically nippy compared to the grand vitara I had before it. Lovely little motor.

Thing is, I have bubbled plastic 'skin' on both mine and the passenger doors; on the top edges, the protective sheathing (kind of matt black plastic basically) is lifting away from the metal door frame. The frame itself appears well-painted. I was wondering if anyone else had experience of this. It looks like heat damage.

So... a few questions!

Is the 'skin' absolutely necessary?

If not, how easy is it to actually remove?

Is the paint job underneath likely to be A1?

If it needs re-skinning, any ideas on the cost?!

Any and all help is greatly appreciated; it's a pretty cosmetic thing but gradually becoming more annoying! All the chips got treated and my little beast will be smoother without the bubbles.

Many thanks in advance! I do have another question about engine ticking and pinking but one thing at a time eh?!

Welcome to the club.

The film is removeable and is available from our resident parts man (Parts-King) or any decent body shop.

I have the procedure somewhere and if I can find it I'll post it!!!

Cheers
