Am due my MOT and was wondering what price I should be paying?

My Toyota dealer caller offered me £55 to which I said it was too much - then got him down to £42

This is in south Manchester. Has anyone paid less?

Thanks

Same Here.

No booking in though.

You turn up and wait.

If there's a long queue,

Its a long wait.

(I'm prepared to sit on my **** for an hour for £18.00 though).

The day will come when you pay the government your MOT fee up front (like your tax disc) and you will go to an MOT station with a receipt to get it done. How many times have you asked for discount on your tax disc?

Garages are shooting themselves in the foot discounting MOT's, VOSA hate it, it undermines what the MOT is all about, as it leads to either a poor MOT (cutting corners to cram more in the day) or unscrupulous garages finding work  An MOT should last an hour, if you are doing more, VOSA will know about it and come a knocking on the garages door to find out how!

My predictions for the day over with The :king: has spoken

Have to agree with Kingo. As a Tester myself it really irks me to see this vitally important road safety issue discounted.Just ask yourself how the garage can afford to do the test for £15.00 less than it should be.The answer usually is he is looking for work and will make up the shortfall in the fee by finding it.

It also puts the tester under pressure because he has to do more tests in a day to make it pay and this inevitably leads to mistakes. You have to remember that as it is the test only tests the vehicle to a minimum standard which is far below what is a service standard.Discounting is bad for everyone.

I thought at one time the MOT had been 'standardized' on the price... about 40odd quid...

In defence of my local garage it still took them an hour to do the test and they only did 2 MOT's the day i was there.

Because offering a good discount like this generally means you'll go back when you need some work/service doing.

Discounting is bad for everyone.

It seems the only people that complain about the discount are the garage's being undercut! ;)
