Hi Guys and gals......And welcome to my Aygo experience.

I will start by saying that this car in my nearly 30 years of motoring is the biggest pile of poo ever to grace one of my driveways.....

27K on the clock, not quite 3 years old and the hideous peice of plastic with subtle touches of tin has decided to start dying, oh yes, the time bomb is clicking away!

The 30K service was due so I put it in for one as the exhaust was a little more fruity that it should be for such a young car with bright red paint, may have pleased some of the younger chavs on here with talk of remus etc.. :P Anyways they came back with a list of warranty work.

  • New Exhaust
  • New water pump
  • New timing cover gasket
  • New radiator
  • New head gasket

And not under warranty was the new discs and pads.

They are looking into and arranging an appointment with Toyota to come out and look at the paint peeling off the back of the hideous plastic little pig.

Not to mention a new hatch button!!!

The car is driven by my wife whom I purchased it for as an early Xmas present, far worse than the last car I bought her, a Wrangler Jeep!!!!! Now that is saying something.

So sod Toyota, sod the climate and the Green warriors or whatever sad, pathetic little title they wish to be known as I am going to purchase a fuel hungry motorcar that takes up lot`s of room and will crush an Aygo from 200 paces.

Some of you may have noticed that my purchase has not been entirely satisfactory........Anybody else with similar small car, notably Aygo problems, would love to arrange a meet up, but am afraid the car would not make it!!!!:lol: :P

Not good at all !

That's a shocking catalogue of work needed for such a young car !

I'm pretty sure that this isn't the norm with the Aygo though.........perhaps other owners can confirm or deny this.

Sorry to hear you got a problem one.

Sounds like a 'friday' built car......or perhaps a monday morning one with the workers still topped up with beer!

certainly not the norm imho

valuable though so post a review in the owners reviews section

hope you are luckier with your next car!

Show me a manufacturer who makes 100% reliable cars and I'll show you pigs flying in formation.

Many cars develop faults during warranty period, what matters more to me is how the problems are resolved.

Exhaust going after three years is not uncommon on a cheap car - every Ford Fiesta I've owned has needed a new exhaust after about 3 years.

Ah I see what you've done wrong......

1) You bought her a Jeep Wrangler.

2) You bought her a red (base model) Aygo.

Your wife feels insulted you have bought her a much cheaper car.

It will have been thrashed to "punish" it for being "cheap"

You will have been made to suffer.

Your anger is transferred to the Aygo.

It feels unloved and becomes ill. :help:

Suggestion: Buy your wife a lovely car, one of her choosing.

Any problems will then be "her" fault. You comfort her and score luuurve points. :D

Everybody is happy.

All is well again. :yahoo:

Sorry you dont love your Aygo.

We had a celica that was a lemon like this............wont go into details but it was tripe. Got rid n bought the Roadster and became sooooooooooo happy with it we went out and bought another celica....and it was great!!! Soooo different form the 'friday' one we had before, and NOW we have traded celica in for an Aygo and are very happy with it. :D

So it just goes to show - you never know bud....maybes you should think of trading it in????

I've a patient who just invested (?) near on 100k £ on an aston Martin

within 3 months, the radiator, starter and whole exhaust system has been replaced and it still has a rattle

point is, it don't matter what you do, some situations are just poo

be happy, recoup your losses and move on, if toyotas leave a bad feeling, there are many other makes to choose from but don't equate quality with price....it just isn't proportional!

Oh yes good idea, buy her a car designed 60 years ago with the engineering sohistication of a twig, there is then far less chance of it going wrong than a modern car.

Just be carefull that the shocking handling dosent throw you off the road into a tree where the minimal lack of safety equipment will ensure either a swift death or a serious disabilty for the rest of your life.

When i holiday in the cayman islands every year (and leave my 6m old bought from brand new aygo to have a rest), i love to see all the abandoned crappy old wranglers that no one can be bothered to save....good luck anyway!

All very normal/common probs for an Aygo id say. Apart from the headgasket/timing cover reseal (doesnt have a gasket) of which i have only done 2.

Id say that 27k on a set of discs/pads isnt bad going at all. At least the warranty work will be done FOC therefore not really anything to moan about :P

Moving from expensive/fast car to cheap/slow one is never easy. It takes a while to get used to..

For me moving from sporty low suspension car to Aygo was a bit painful (even it's just temporary and it's my wife's car not mine). It has so huge body roll that my first impression with Aygo was that it drives like a van.. But now after 300 miles it's ok... I just drive slower... especially on roundabouts lol

Your missing the point, I had a F2 evo Hyundai coupe before my Aygo with nearly 3 times the power, better grip, etc.....but i coulld never use it. With the Aygo you can (if you want) go at full tilt and have much more fun. You have more room on the road to play with as its so small, the steering is very good considering the elctric set up and the breakaway is really good on the standard contis.

I started my driving career on little low powered cars as did most of my mates around silverstone and the surrounding villages in the mid 90's, cos back then we couldnt afford anything else, and it teaches you to be able to get the most out of what you have. I can keep up with most focus sized boxes on twisty backroad in my Aygo and have lots more fun at the same time.

Have fun learning the joys of small car motoring and dont consign yourself to it being boring, as it isnt!

Hi, Sorry you're Aygo is misbehaving.

Mines got 24K on it now, its been abused by learners, has only had a new A/C compressor in that time. Apart from that its as good as new.

At least its under warranty, just shows how good the dealer is to pick up these things. When I had (AA) Focuses, 3 out of 6 had to be returned becasuse they needed alot of work doing(over a day)

Cars today are like everything else, in as there're built as cheaply as possible.

Sounds like your wife doesn't check the radiator water bottle level nor the brake pad wear to be honest ;)

How much did you actually spend to get it fixed ? I had a 60 000 Mercedes "big car that can crush an Aygo with" and spent £300 on a new CPS and £3300 on a new gearbox and torque converter. My colleague spent £3000 getting his wiring sorted out after an oil leak ....

So guess how much sympathy I have for you Victor Meldrew?... start at zero and work downwards. :D

Andy

My car so far :

  • 25k on the clock
  • Two New full lock kits on driver passenger, boot and fuel cap
  • Fuel Cap lock replaced again cos the idiots forgot to change itdidnt realise until I needed to desperatly fill with fuel
  • Full New Exhaust
  • New Waterpump
  • New Radiator
  • New Air Filter as the one that came with the car was rotting
  • New Brake Pads and Shoes (had to paid for these myself)

So bascially the same problems; I love my wee car... the Warranty expires at the end of 2009 so I'm guessing by then al basially have a full new car and Im sick of going into the dealership :(

That's the good thing about these forums - people sign up, they share the good things and the bad things - enter into discussions, help other users......

Oh no, I got mixed up - sometimes you just get a troll who signs up, has a great big moan, belittles the car that the majority are very happy with, hurls a few insults round (chavs etc) then leaves, feeling most proud.

Anyway - I'm sure you have all our sympathies at the huge cost of the repairs - oh no, they were all done under warranty.

They were right to be sarcastic about the intiial post especially when the actual outlay is not that great for all the problems.

I spent £17 000 on my Mercedes in 2 years considering depreciation etc but do I go on mbworld.org and start moaning about it ? Er, no.

The cost of running the car is so cheap that even if you are unlucky to get a bad one ( which is more than possible with these built down to a price small cars) the cost to repair is still small.

People ought to go back 25 years ago and have to struggle with a British Leyland Ital or Allegro to get some perspective on things.

You have never had it so good ....

I disagree about sarcastic replies to the original post. I think they are unwarranted.....is this bulletin board exclusively for praising Aygos? ATT was right to moan irrespective of cost/no cost to him/her.

When I buy a new Japanese car (especially a Toyota) I expect to do a huge mileage with only very minor repairs needed. I have had Fiats and Fords from new with fewer faults over the first 30,000 miles.

I don't consider New water pump, New timing cover gasket, New radiator, New head gasket to be minor repairs!

I want my Aygo to repeat my experience with a Yaris.........87,000 (very high speed) miles without a single fault. I only replaced tyres, brake pads and disks and one sidelight bulb.

I'll put money on it that mine makes 90k without fault ;)

go buy a £30k car where nothing will go wrong with it, n IF (on the rare occasion) somethin goes wrong, the dealer will pretty much lick your ***** to keep you sweet. Dont buy a budget car n expect it to be anything spectacular ffs lol
