Ah there's always one isnt there?

i certainly hope mine isnt a lemon! Knowing my luck....

Mind you, from all the cars that have been in my life (ex hubby used to change cars like his socks, now eldest son is the same) I think the same applies to all motors.

But what do I know?

Coming up to 30k on my 06 plate Aygo and not a single thing untoward needed doing. Break pads and front Tyres done but they were probably more to do with my driving style to be fair.

I’ve had a couple of right bangers & a new KA that had to be rejected due to a catalogue of errors so the Aygo is, at the moment, right at the top of my reliability list and long may it stay there.

Little Growler has been knocked about (2 years of harsh city street wear & tear) & two friends have used him to learn to drive in so he's not had the easiest of lives but he’s put up with it and I reward him with the occasional deep clean & he keeps me sweet.

All is well at the moment and likely to be for a good few years (if I start to take proper care!)

ive just recently had a similar problem with my aygo.

the laquer on the back of the car, under the boot glass has started peeling off the plastic.

looks very bad, so we took it to toyota garage out of town, as the toyota garage we bought it from under a year ago had gone bust.

the garage we took it to dont wanna touch it or do anything as they say its not factory finish and has voided our warranty, also mainly because we didnt buy it from them...i was like WTF. i said arent you guys toyota and they reply saying we dont wanna pay for repairs to other toyota garage cars.

it was bought from a toyota dealership, practically NEW (3k miles only), but the dealership went bust a month ago and now toyota dont want to honour any warranty because the toyota garage it was bought from doesnt exist anymore.

the garage owner that we took it to, to have the paint looked at said the repair would cost them money so he didnt want to do it. its every toyota dealership for themselves, the brand toyota doesnt even unite them, they refuse to deal with any other cars other than the ones they sold. EVEN if it is under warranty.

Shocked by this and will not be buying a toyota again, they do not care about their customers in situations like this...

erm, thats a silly arguement. a £30k can have just as many problems as any other car.

even if a car is a lower model than the rest, it should function just as well. your already doing without the engine power and interior luxuries etc buying a cheaper model but it should work just as long as any of the other cars they sell.

The dealer you have just visited cannot refuse to honour any warranty claim on your car purely based on the fact that that you did not buy your car from them. The car has a 3 year 60,000 mile warranty (which ever comes soonest) including paint work & a 12 year anti corrosion cover the warranty is also pan European. The only way the dealer could decline / invalidate your warranty is if the car has already had bodywork repairs to the effected panel & that the work was not completed by a Toyota approved body shop or that the repair / fault is of a service nature e.g. the fault is caused by poor / lack of servicing the dealer is responsible in proving this is the case, if they cannot give a valid reason and still refuse to process a valid claim then call Toyota customer relations on 01737 367600 and report the dealers lack of assistance in this matter.

Remember when visiting a dealer you not actually dealing with Toyota directly, they act as in intermediary between yourself & Toyota GB. When they agree to take on a warranty claim they have to be certain that the fault is a genuine manufacturing defect (Warranty is only there to cover manufacturing issues not accidental damage nor wear & tear)

if the dealer does assess the situation wrong they are the ones left out of pocket as Toyota will not pay them & nor will the customer. Unfortunately from time to time you may get a dealer or retailer that do not play fair but this is not the norm for the Toyota network who are widely regarded as one the best mainstream manufacturers to deal with.

All I can suggest is if you are sure the lacquer peeling is a genuine manufacturing defect either revisit the dealership and ask to have the fault inspected by their Field Service manager ( They work for Toyota GB & will tell the dealer to repair the car ) or find a better dealer who is willing to assist.

I apologise if my post goes on a bit but I work as a warranty administrator in a Toyota dealership & get riled when people appear to get fobbed of by poor / ill-informed dealerships.

Did you buy or pay for any part of the car using your credit card ?

If so the card company are also liable for the warranty repairs if Toyota refuse to do the works (I think this also applies to loans if taken out to buy the car).

Also, it's not the local garage that needs to OK or refuse the warranty claim, it's Toyota. The local garage sends the claim to Toyota and the decide wether to honour it or refuse it, then you start getting Trading Standards involved as well if needed.

well toyota claimed that the panel had been resprayed thats why they voided the warranty. after the rcs 900 dealerships went down they could not trace where/when the so called spray job was done etc.

the way i see it is we bought the car from a toyota dealership that went down recently, without being told about any repair work being done to the car and for us to find out when the laquer starts peeling is a PITA.

cant see this being my fault but they refuse to consider repairing it.

what do i do in this situation??

Try contacting What Car? magazine and see what they say or whether they can do a story on it.
