Bought my 03 Yaris TS Sport 3 weeks ago. I drive about 700 miles a week. And we've been getting on fine. Anyway i left for work this morning and about 5 miles down the road and the engine malfunction light came on. I stopped the car. Turned the ignition off then back on and carried on to work as the car didn't feel any different. I've convinced myself that it is louder so I checked the exhaust but i'm not sure as the book sas's the light should go out if its an exhaust problems. Anyway I can reset the light to see if it comes back on? And can I read the codes without using a reader ( my boyfriend has a Supra and he can use a meter) ?

Help please.

You can check the code by bridging #4 and #16 pin hole on the dia/port,then switch on the ignition and the check light should blink the code,e:g for code 26 the check light will blink twice pause blink six times, as for two codes the pause would be longer then it would show the other code. The engine might be in limp mode causing the loud exhaust, that happens when you have used a not so good gas and trying to laod the engine up causes the check light to come on or one off the sensors might be faulty and the diagnostic check will tell you which one.

Got a reader plugged in today. P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank #1). The fault is cleared just now so I'll just have to wait and see if it comes back on.
