How Do You Deal With The 'nova Boys'

Recommended Posts

I think possibly that I have met you - At McDonalds Farnborough Gate in the pouring rain you came to look at my ST185 when you were thinking about either that or a 200zx. I sold the ST185 yesterday as it happens.

I now have the ST205 - which is much much better :D

4WD losses are there but manageable, and the engine doesnt have to come out for a clutch change just Toyota say it does.

You mentioned the top-end I would agree with what you said, Disagree with the mid-range part - The mid-range torque is incredible once the car comes on boost its devastating. At very low speed or from standing you would have a distinct advantage due to the 2wd and less weight.

My 2p.

Whats the spec on your pug 205?

Yes, hi mate :waves: :)

At the moment it's just a standard mi16 engine, so putting out 160bhp but only weighs 890kg. I plan to do some mild mods, nothing drastic, don't want to ruin the driveability. 200bhp will do me.

I do find it funny tho if someone goes to undertake me on the motorway and then I put my foot down.

Does this imply that you're not using good lane discipline?

I think he means that when you are doing just over the speed limit in the fast lane and its still not fast enough for some people its always fun to teach them a lesson

I tend not to get involved with the Nova boys as they can be as unpredictable as their cars.. And I dont fancy being side-swiped by some glue-sniffing such an incredibly beautiful person...

But I do tend to get a load of Beemers (and we're not talking anything with the M Badge either) trying to large it when-ever I'm out and about.. The other day when I was on me way home from work and was sat a set of traffic lights (on the IDR in Reading) some rep dude (shirt hanging in the back) in a 3-series beemer pulled up in the lane on my right stared over laughing whilst revving the nutz off his motor... Had a quick glance of the car didn't see anything that would indicate an M3...

Sat there and waited for the lights to change, when they did he dumps his clutch and goes no-where he's only gone and !Removed! stalled it...  Man how I laughed as I looked over whilst pulling away...

The next set of lights he's back and a little :ffs: especially with me pmsl.. So this time I decide to take the bait... Amber he's gone Green I go 1st I've made up the distance 2nd have gone past him 3rd he's getting smaller in the rvm... Not only that he's been undertaken by an RS Turbo of a work mate..!!!!

Posted

heh heh .. the IRD is a good one for that .. I like late at night - when I don't slow for the roundabouts and the other person understeers almost off the road ..

Posted

That'll be the one yes... !Removed! great... Especially as they have put that anti skid surface by the lights after TGI's (towards Oracle) !Removed! excellent for traction..!! :P

the only bit that worries me is the blat past the cop shop .. I swear they will be looking their window as I shoot past ..

Posted

Hmm yeah that can be a worry, but I usually leave at that bit and go up Castle Street to make me way home..!!!

I user J12 .. so the IDR is only used for the Jap car meets or if I wanna pose ..

Regardless of what speed you're doing (40mph, 70mph, 71mph, 130mph) you should be in the inside lane if there's nothing you need to pass.

Getting undertaken implies you're sitting in an outside lane (2 or 3) when there's nothing inside of you. Which is bad practice and against the highway code.

I disagree with the pug 205 being quick .. I had a race with one (and then met the owner about a week later at a car meet).

Yeah, but that was probably a standard 1.6 or 1.9 with 105-130bhp. You're an MR2 turbo with 245bhp so twice the power and only 50% weight penalty - hardly surprising you were faster!

Posted

It was a 1.9 Gti .. and yeah, he was slow .. He didn't realise it was a turbo until he heard me talking to a bloke about upgrades at the meet!

(and I have 196 bhp)

Bah first off R32 V6four motions are oh so overrated. My local Shell station manager(who is a great dude and his Optimax is the cheapest in Scotland £76.9p) owns one and I regularly toast him and he doth repect my 2. The golf is a right slacker in 3rd gear. No competition.

And about this boy racer thing. The best ..and I mean the BEST laff I ever had was when me and a m8 both chipped in for a series2 escort RS Turbo. It was an on the spot desicion one night after a very similar rant to the one on this board. We decided...we were gonna get our own back on these scum! We searched the trader that night and bought it the next day  . We stripped it completely out(COMPLETELY). The hardest desicion was chuckin out the ash tray..but hey you gotta save those gramms.

After a quick fight over who wears the nike cap(I got stuck with the addidas bah!)we had no Shell suits(fortunatley) but we tipped our caps at jaunty angles, raided town and acted like the total bams from hell. The mission?: To get back all those annoying gits and deliberatly race every corsa/saxo/pug/any other Ford and not give a toss if we crash the thing. But heres the strange thing..every time we toasted another eejit they pulled up..and gave us RESPECT!:lol: . It must be a 'code of the bams' a kind of Fellowship of the Capped Bonces. It was strange as other neds tipped thier caps in respect at our RS. The intention was to get these fools back for all the annoying challenges they made at us when we had our 'proper' cars but no...we didnt annoy them..we got thier *cough* respect! We put it down to the fact that they really thought we were one of 'them'

It was a great laugh tho and now when we both roll through town after work with the Elise and my tubby we see the same guys again and you can tell their thinking "Is that those guys...naaaah cant be!'. It appears without baseball caps it we are unrecognisable...either that or they are in denial that we are the same guys .

You guys should try it. Grab a cap..don a shellsuit and wear that sovvy and hit the streets in clapped out boy racer ride and get them back. Its an experience youll never forget.Yer sides will split!:lol::lol::thumbsup:

got to say that i enjoy playing with the boy racer brigade in there silly little euro cars. now i let them get a car and a half in front, plant it, and then laugh at them in my rear veiw mirror.

funnyest thing was comming hame from the pod once. i had broken my gearbox and as such only had 1st,2nd, and 5th so come off this island onto a duel carrigeway in the outside lane as there was a lot of traffic on the nearside when i notice an impetza in my mirror, now as you can imagine going from 2nd to 5th blunts the acceleration a bit! but as soon as i got boost i left him trailing behind. at the next set of traffic lights he has pulled along side and both he and his GF are looking across at me. was going to wind down the window and appologise for not leaving him sooner but i'd broken my box but then decided not to bother.made my day that did

What's a Nova?? and a XR3??

Cheers

A nova is a small Vauxhall (like a Holden - as it's GM, but a whole lot worse).

They are about 20 years old and a small 2 door hatchback .. the kids buy them and make them look like extra's from fast and furious (when they are neither).

and XR2 and XR3 are fords .. XR2 is a "sporty" fiesta and and XR3 is a "sporty" escort .. again sh*t boxes ..

here is a sad sad few examples of a nova (top is relitively standard)

I haven't had anyone trying to race me in any kind of aggresive/provocative manner off the top of my head. I've had the car nearly 7 months and all I have had is just the usual case of people following too closely (which of course does not mean they are trying to race) Most people seem to just give the car admiring looks, which is great :)

And if some muppet does ever try and race me, I will continue to drive normally, as if im going to bother wasting petrol by letting the turbo spool up...

Thankfully most of the nova boyz round my way tend to all be in 1.1 1.3 sr's so it would be a bit silly to try and ***** me off in my car :lol:

But there is some :censor: in a BRIGHT YELLOW!!! LAD motorsport 106 GTI who seems to think because he has a "sporty 106" he can in a 30 limit drive right on my ***** over the speed bumps and try to over take :ffs: needless to say he had a bit of a shock when he over took on a bump and then I floored it and he was on the wrong side of the road with a nice 4x4 coming towards him.. Now I know it was a stupid thing for me to do But anger got the best of me :( :( I just get ****** with people try to over take me on a speed bumps!!!! yes I go the limit, yes I drive slowy over them the cars low you muppets!!!ahhhhhhhhh RANT OVER

One thing I have noticed with most men is that when you are driving, you look at the driver of the other car....why?

I don't have 'races' with other cars. I guess the main reason is because I am a girl, but I also don't bother to look at the other driver, as I think this is the silent agreement for a challenge.

Now when it comes to a car i like, thats another matter.

Get a Paseo, Nova boys have no idea what it is! :D If only I had a 4EFTE engine to back the looks up...

Nicola your right about that, it's weird! Best thing to do is wave at them, that'll freak them out!

Better still give them a real good kicking in.....:lol::lol: (make them bleed for the arrogant pompas attitude)

Disclaimer: I do not condone violence (well maybe in this case  ) and DO NOT take any responsibility for anyone following my words of advice.

do Jag's driving up yer *rse and pulling in front of you (he actually overlapped the front of my car when he pulled in - had to swerve and brake) count as Muppets?

BE51 RXX .. I think .. driving like a goon ..

If so - he thought his car was quick .. erm - no, it's not..

brillant post!

Me and a friend hired a van one last week to get some 'stuff' we got one of those big renalt master things - the same as the vauxhall Mavano?

Stop at a set of lights when a Clio pulls up along side, with three poor young lads obivously with there heads on backwards staring at us. This clio looks a shed, its a R14?? with a bulge and 2 small canons stuck out the back (and only smoke out of one of them). The driver is revving it the other two continue to stare. I look down.

A little voice says "its not your van"

Lights go green and we nail it, well this van goes and goes, I cant see the Clio behind me.

A huge VAN has just wipped a 'townie' off the line! I chuckle and we get to the next set of lights. Mr backwards cap pulls up along side again, this time really gunning the engine, two lads still glareing at us but now they look really ******. The lights go green the clio to goes off in a cloud of smoke, na I think, points been proved and turn left down the road.
