Newbie Buying A 5th Gen Gt4

Hi guys,

Thank god for communities like this eh?!

Finally putting my money where my mouth is and buying the car of my dreams!!!!!

This particular gt4 is a J reg with 50k!!!!! Full service history, 2 lady owners from new and looking in good condition. No timing belt change though but shouldnt be a problem. Maybe change waterpump also.

Only downside for me is she's an automatic. A friend of mine said I should convert it to manual but this would be a ridiculous amount of work I presume??!!!!!

The only thing is, I've seen an ad for it and need to travel 120 miles to go n have a look n hopefully do a deal. I have literally no idea what I need to look out for when I see the car and test drive it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys.

it cant be a gt4 as they weren't available with an auto gearbox. sounds like its just a gt that may have a 3S-GTE conversion (although whether you could actually do that i don't know

How embarrasing! This is why I need guidance! Here's the current info I have

1991 J Reg TOYOTA CELICA GT 2.0i 16V TWIN CAM 3dr Auto.

Is this not as good as a gt4 then? So much to learn, so little time!!!!

Hello and welcome to the club.

You may say not as good as the GT4 but still has a kick to it.

My last Celica was an auto, she was an import and still held her own. B)

Thanks Calisto.

Well, so when I go n have a nosey at this car what should I keep my eyes out for? Is there anything that this celica has a common problem with or anything like that?

Wish I could go with some1 but its gonna be hard enough me getting there never mind taking any1 else!
