Idle Problems On A 96 Corolla 1.3 Gli

Hi all,

My brothers 96 Corolla 1.3 gli is idling too fast, from a cold start it starts off how it should i.e.

high idle speed around 1000+rpm. It then gets gradually higher to around 1500rpm as the engine is

proper warm (temp needle in the middle).

I took the air intake towards the throttle body off and cleaned the butterfly valve a little and gave a squirt of

wd40 into the little hole just before, with the vain hope it might be the idle control valve. I started her up and

still pretty much the same. Also took out the EFI fuse for a few seconds so that it may reset the values -

no luck there.

The car had been standing for a few weeks though, if anyone can offer any other suggestions, that would be

much appreciated a the mpg is poor. My 93 Carina E (4AFE 1.6) is also suffering the same symptom.

Any help much appreciated.

bridge the diagnostic terminals (te1 &e1) and count the flashes of the cel light on the dash - if any fault codes have been stored. has a similar prob with the 7a-fe and the fault code came up with the lambda sensor. i then tested the sensor and got no reading from it!!
