Corola Cd Changer

Hi there!

I've just got an 05 Corolla 1.4 T3 which I love.

So far the only thing I don't like is the "green" LCD display, looks like an early mobile phone, on the radio/cd trip computer unit.

Is there anything out there that will "modernise" the display/

Also is it possible to get a CD multi disc unit for this car?

Any advice gratefully received.

Heyho,

Why not just swap the factory headunit for a MP3/CD player? that'll look a bit more up to date!

and.. Yes! I'm prettysure there is a CD CHanger out there that will fit, Check eBay, I recall them having a few when I last checked.

As said above you can change it over for a cd/mp3 player itll look good and give better sound quality depending on the unit you purchase.

If I change to an aftermarket unit will the Toyota wiring harness fit in it and will the sreering wheel volume control etc still work?

for an aftermarket unit you need an ISO adapter to connect to the Toyota wiring.

About £3 on eBay or £10 in Halfords.

The steering wheel controls will work when you buy an adapter specific to the new head units make e.g. alpine adapter for an alpine, also available on eBay.

Here is my double din headunit I put my car (p.s. ignore the left plastic side - its work in progress  ) :

^^^ Thanks for the info

Does anybody else have any pics of their units.

What would people recommend bearing in mind funds are limited, don't need bluetooth, DVD but would like RDS radio, 6 disc CD changer, MP3 connection would be nice.

Also ideally needs to be a straight swap but I'm guessing a double din, whilst fitting the hole, will need some little side pieces like in smoftah's piccy?

If you wanna go single din then you gotta get yourself a single din fascia adapter these are around a tenner, you can then fit in you single din headunit. Iv take some quick piks for you theyr not the best as its dark outside will upload clearer wuns in mrning.

OK lads I'm seriously considering an aftermarket head unit now that I've seen some of your installations and that I can get a facia to cover the double din hole.

Daft question but how do I get the Toyota unit out?

Erm, There's a guide to it on here somewhere. Have a search for it.

But if I recall correctly...

Remove the gater from around the gear knob, pull off the surroundings, the center console should them come away with a good tug, and the the double-din unit / vents are held in by 4 bolts underneith it all.

OK - I thought it might have some concealed latches somewhere and just slide out, but unbolting's fine!

I actually have everything I need to get a fair system running, except the Facia and wiringing adaptor. hehe...

Have all my old Subs / Amps / 6x9s and Headunit from my old car. and my Mrs's car too! So I've got bucket loads. haha.... Don't think I'll be cuttng holes in my shelf any time soon though! I'll be making my own custom box for the boot, shall try and get it to house the sub, amp and 6x9s in one..

You're probably thinking about man-bing. He has a gallery showing the steps involved in removing the fascia surround etc here

I don't intend to do anything like that, purely a new head unit with a USB port so that her indoors can plug her flash drive in. While I'm on it the new one will have a blue background so that it matches the dials more than the ugly green one!

Luckily my JVC H/U has a USB slot. I want my Amp & Subs + 6x9s because I miss the BOOM and loudness... To get the sound I like I have to crank the original unit to about 45-50.

My usual setup gets too loud after volume 12, haha....

MiniMarc - That'd be the one! Cheers for that.

 Thanks for that - I'm all fired up now, I might do it tomorrow.

Does Halford's sell the ISO adapter for a Corolla does anybody know?
