A comment on the Rav 4-3 indicators - I find it necessary to watch the flashers on the dashboard, because the repeater sounding mechanism is a little too quiet. Any one else care to comment.

It was always something Clare never liked although I've never really noticed.

You could fit a towing relay/buzzer in the boot.

True Anchorman it used to drive me nuts, either I was going deaf or the indicator sound was too quite. I even posted about it at one time. Can,t see what you can do to louden it either, very annoying

I have a RAV4.2 fitted with a towbar and buzzer and I have to say I sort of prefer it when the buzzer is going compared to the quiet tick from the dash - but it is a bit too much the other extreme.

I would say the best way to make the indicator warning noise louder is to fit a buzzer like Anchorman suggests, and then partially muffle it until you get the volume you want as a very easy and cheap solution

Blimey I'm glad I didn't say anything bad about you!!!

As if I could :P

How are you stranger? Is the BMW living up to expectations?

Cheers

Hi John,

I wish the sounder was a bit louder as well. When OH is in car she reminds me to turn it off sometimes as I am a bit deaf. I think that the major problem for me is caused by the indicator lights being partially masked by the steering wheel rim. If we can have a dimming control on the dash lights, a volume control on the "ticker" ought to be fairly easy. Anyone know how the "tick" is generated?

Yes it's just the tick from the flasher relay behind the facia. They mount it on the metal frame so it does increase the noise but obviously not enough. If you can get to a truck dismantler and look for and S10 series Fodens, they have a plip generator which was wired across the indicators. It should work at 12V. They were made by a company called Thomas Electronics but I can't find any current refernece to them.

Anybody in industrial electronics may know if similar devices exist or even a trawl through the RS Components catalogue might help.
