Ipod Touch Mpg Facilty

Hi everyone got an ipod touch and there is an application you can download that tracks your Miles per gallon. You have to put in your odometer reading, price you paid per litre and how many litres you have put in. I have done this 3 times now but on the 2 previous occasions i filled up. Last week I put £20 in. It told me my last fillup returned 71mpg and my average is 63 mpg. Am I doing something wrong? Just wondering if I have to keep filling it or does it matter.

The application is called ACCUFUEL and I am sure others on this forum said they have been using it. Are you getting the same as me? I must admit though i do drive really slow because it has now become like an obsession on the MPG i am getting. Love winding people up. They dont believe me you know!

To get a gauge of your mpg on each fill up then you'll need to fill up to the same point volume wise each time, I normally fill up to the first click - I expect the £20 you put in didn't fill it up to the same point giving you an unexpected high false mpg reading.

For me personally an average over 5 fill ups is a good indicator which is currently around 63-64mpg, for the past 3mths I've been trying out various driving styles on my motorway commute to work and have been getting the following:-

55mph @ 66-68mpg

60mph @ 61-65mpg

65mpg @ 57-60mpg

Thats just about out of third gear

I think the HGV limiters let them go a bit faster( Not Much)

Was only doing 55 to gauge what mpg I could get, but don't normally do 55 - too stressful with lorrys on your backside all the time
