Stereo Options For 2002 Rav4

Hi,

I've just bought a 2002 5dr Rav4 (1.8) petrol for my wife and it only has a Radio/Cassette unit..

Looking to see what options there are available to upgrade this unit - At least to something with a CD player , but preferably with an IPOD connection.

Is there anyone out there who has a stock Toyota CD head-unit with trip computer read-out etc left over after an upgrade that they'd be interested in selling?? :-)

Thanks in advance

They come up quite regular on E Bay, also seen them in the for sale section on here.

I'm sure some other Toyota models use the same one.

This is what I have in my RAV4 at present ....

ToyotaToysMedium.jpg

58812 CD/Radio unit that will slot directly into your 2002 RAV4 with all the same connections.

And on the left is a Dension ICE>Link Plus iPod Cradle that is connected to the CD-Changer slot and thi sallows it to be controlled by the head unit and played though the car Speakers.

Why am I telling you this?

Well, I have to admit "The Pimp goes on" and I am fitting a non-Toyota unit instead with lots of extra toys on it :drool::help:

sent you a PM ;)

Hi, just bought a 2004 with the same unit pictured, what other options are there that will preserve the trip functions? Any top tips to look for on eBay?

Thanks

Hi Howard :)

not sure what your questions is :g: The unit shown fitted in our RAVs have the On-Board Computer built into it, so I guess you are thinking of changing for a different non-Toyota unit if concerned about keeping trip functions? If so, what missing feature is making you look for an alternative?

If you do go non-Toyota and want the on board computer stuff still, then the easiest way is to fit a Scangauge. quite a few posts on them here

mp3 playback is the main missing feature - I don't want to go for an add on like a dension, I just burn dvd/cds.

DVD playback is looking useful, with rear screen (kids!), but portable DVDs are so cheap.....

Basically, Satnav, bluetooth calling, mp3 playback, plus possibilities of extra screen, and the post with rear camera fitted looks (complicated) interesting.

Scangauge? will search :)

Thanks!

Will do that list  - Think it is £899 fitted at Halfords at the moment (£100 off their normal price)

£899 is expensive, you can get them for £700 fitted.

anyway, you have to modify those stock toyota brackets to get it more level with your dashboard. drill new holes 10mm from the existing once.

this dnx5220bt is a good unit! B)

didn't pay £899 ;)

I tried it standard and flush as you suggested and actually preferred it standard when using the side fillers - if I get the wide bezel, will probably go flush then
