A bit more detail would help! Is the bonnet open? Under load or not? Lights and other electrical bits on?

mine whistles when its happy and whines when its sad

Bonnet down..Nothing on and not in gear etc.... Its almost all the time when it happens to be honest im not quite sure if it is the alternator or not but it seems to be coming from that area, You cant really hear it on idle when its warm although when its cold you can when its warm and you rev it you can hear it also i will have to video it or something and see if the mic pics it up as its quite hard to describe lol

Use a long handled screwdriver and put the handle to your ear and the blad on the various parts of the engine. The noise shoul d be transmitted up the screwdriver to your ear helping you to pin point hwre it's coming from.

EXTREME CAUTION MUST BE EXERCISED WHEN DOING THIS AS THERE WILL BE MOVING PARTS - DO NOT STICK THE SCREWDRIVER ON LIVE ELECTRICAL TERMINALS OR MOVING PARTS!

No should not be making a noise like that. Have you tried tightening the aux belt. Is it a squealing noise?
