My rear wheel bearing is gone. I've got the replacement bearing

My problem is fitting the new one

I got the dirt cap, the split pin and nut off. but don't know how to take the brake drum off to get at the bearing. any help would be great.

P.S. I don't know that much about cars just trying to teach myself

Make sure you slacken your handbrake right off before tying to remove drums as they may well have lips on outer edge caused by brake shoes wearing into drum over the years. A bit of gentle persuasion with a couple of screwdrivers on either side of drum between drum & back plate with also a gentle tap of a hammer to break any rusted seal should do the job. Take it easy & try not to bend backplates. If drums are in a fit state to be used again take lip of drum with angle grinder as you may have to take them on & off a few times when re adjusting. This will make life a lot easier.

Yes the hand brake was off, I tried getting a screwdriver to persuade it out and even a hammer on the otter side of the drum. Still not coming off. is there any screw holding it in? Thanks for getting back so quickly

A while since i have renewed shoes on a starlet, but to the best of my memory cannot remember screw, but if screw fitted you would clearly see i as it would just hold drum to hub? Also with h/brake adjustment, it has to be let completely off. Sounds like more time with hammer, but don't go mad on it. Hope this is of help.

It turned out that I needed a bit of heat as the bearing had fused to the axis. Had to get a guy out with a blowtorch to remove it.

Thanks for the help
