I have 2001 model Toyota Vitz RS (Yaris T-Sport) with 1.5lt engine and manual transmission. My car starts to misfire around 2 year before first i changed sparks and it was ok for only 15days after that my mechanic and i checked the spark plugs and 2 of them don't burn the fuel so we changed that 2 coils and we solved the problem. After 5 months it makes that problem again and we changed the coils again and it contiouse like this. Before 5 months i went to the Toyota dealer in the greek side of the Cyprus and they checked and they said the current on the coil is to high so coils broken down in time. Is anyone meet a problem like this or is anyone know what should i do ??

Somewhere in the electrical system there should be a voltage regulator, some are on their own some built into the alternator. This keeps the electrical feed to the car at a constant voltage, it stops the voltage rising as the engine revs up. Just a guess but it maybe this. Find an auto-electrician to check it out.

Thanks pete. If you have any guess please let me know because i'm gonna try all, i don't want to sell my car. And also i want to tell you something. When i bought this car i went to a electrician and change the batteries location and after that i fited the air filter (apexi power intake) just front of the throttle body. One month before my car starts to misfire again so i thought wait for broke down the coil and find which is broken and change it so i can drive the car. Meanwhile i changed the air filters location and fit it to standard place with apexi again. So i should completely broke down the coil in time (start and stop just after the start and when you diagnose the check engine light ignition system malfunction) but i didn't happen i just makes misfires but not completely broke down so i can drive car but sometimes makes misfiring and sometimes it stops. So is the air filters location cause a problem like this ? i mean may be air flow sensor make a mistake when read air flow.

Hi

Well you certainly have some kind of electrical problem, probably something to do with moving the Battery.... If I were you I think I'd put the car back how Toyota intended and start from there.

Good Luck

Pete

  • 1 month later...

Finally I thnk I found the problem. Last time when my car makes misfiring I changed all of the coils but my car still misfires, so I came to home right that time and cut the coil's cables and I replaced with another wirings. Now it looks ok.
