Headlight Adjustment

Hi!

A few weeks ago I got an '06 Avensis T3-X. Driving at night though, I've found the dipped headlights don't seem to reach very far ahead at all, even with the headlight adjustment set as high as possible (it's fitted with electric adjustment). I've read various threads here about the bulbholders on the Avensis being susceptible to getting burnt out, and the bulbs dropping down. It's hard to say whether that's really what's going on here, so I thought it might be worth a stab trying to adjust the headlight vertical alignment anyway in case it helps, by following the instructions people have posted on this forum.

Only problem is that what I see at the back of the lights doesn't seem to fit the descriptions, and I think this is because it's fitted with the electric adjustment. Anyone know how to adjust them in that case, or whether it simply isn't possible?

It's still meant to be covered by warranty. Would I just be able to take it to a Toyota main dealer and get them to fix it for free?

Thanks in advance,

Jifl

P.S. I've checked the tyre pressures too, they're fine, so it isn't that.

Hi Jifl,

Im new to this forum but reading through the previous ones, apparently the Avensis have a problem of having extremly dim dipped headlights. I have an 04 plate T-spirit and at the moment have changed the bulbs to 100w xenon bulbs, 6000k and although there is a difference, its not a "wow" factor. I am thinking of having them replaced with a xenon Kit, which i think is the only way to remedy the situation.

By the way, the NS beam i found was low compared to the os one ( i beleive they come like this?) which i have matched to the os one now by turning the adjuster behind the headlight.

I have a 2007 model, but the lights should be similar. Recently I had a 30kkm service done, and they over-dipped my perfectly adjusted light(!!), so I had to re-adjust myself. Dooh!

1) Remove plastic covering above headlights.

2) Locate electric adjuster on the back of the headlight assy.

3) You will see a screw, with a ring of teeth, about 20mm diameter, and some guides.

4) Repeatedly wedging a screwdriver to move the teeth, you can work the screw ½-1 revolution, and check the result. Dont remember which way does what, so experiment :)

BR, Thomas
