hey guys,

i have just bought myself a new mushroom air filter to replace the standard box in my 99 G6R and was wondering about the wire running into the existing box? Would it be ok to take it out and leave it out? Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Not sure about this but I think that wire will need to be connected. There's a few wires for the T-Sport filter and if they aren't connected up then various warning lights light up on the dashboard.

Best have it connected I say

The wire you talk of is usually a little ‘plug’ type unit, which is fitted in the lid of the original plastic Air box.

On your car it will be the Air Temperature switch/sensor which is one of the many items in a modern car which sends signals to the ECU. As your car is only ‘1st’ generation OBD system (Pre 2001) you will probably NOT have any ‘management / MIL’ light appear nor do I think you will generate any fault codes.

But you MAY experience occasional staling in the Winter months. Also (but a slight outside chance) keep an eye on fuel economy – or actually ‘rich running’ – this will eventually show up as excessive ‘soot’ on the Exhaust tail pipe and possibly slight ‘fluttering’ of revs at idling (e.g. revs going up and down from 800r.p.m to 1100 r.p.m).

If it was a 2002 onwards ‘present shape’ Corolla I would say only specific ‘performance’ upgrades that have appropriate fitment for such items would be advised as these vehicles will have the present Generation EOBD/OBD2 systems and with non specific/’cheepo’ multifit items it is highly likely the MIL light would be lighting up like a Christmas tree!*

*I realise there are members on here who have fitted such items and have had NO problems. To them my apologies for what I have just said but there are also a lot who HAVE had such problems.
