Hi

I understand there is an ipod interface adaptor which runs from the back of the original stereo into the glove box to allow connection of the ipod and controlling through the stereo.

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to install and if anyone has done it themselves?

Also how can i find the part number as my dealer isn't the most helpful.

Thanks

According to the AIM it takes only half an hour to install and it doesn't look difficult at all.

The only special tool you'd need is a 32mm hole saw to drill a hole for the cable to pass through.

The partnumbers on the AIM are PZ473-00261-A0 and PZ457-90261-00, which seems

to be the actual interface and the harness needed. If you allready have a CD-changer

and/or the factory subwoofer installed you need a different harness.

From looking at the User Manual you only get control over the iPod, but allmost no visual

feedback. The ID3-tags do not show and you can;t see where you're navigating to.

If you really want to pick out a specific song on your iPod you'd be better off with an

aftermakert radio with iPod controls. I have a Kenwood with "iPod Direct Control"

whichs works like a charm. And the Kenwood has a multiple-line dotmatrix display,

so it can show me exactly what's playing or what I'm looking for...

Thanks for the advice

Rather than drilling a hole you might want to just run the cable straight down from the radio into the space in front of the drinks holders. This is how I ran the USB cable from the back of my new headunit, it will also mean that the Ipod is close to the power socket if you need it as well.

Good idea Gordon H

My local toyota dealer has quoted me £120 for the parts, I'm not going to pay that at the moment.

Thinks i'll be keepin an eye on eBay for the kit.

£120 just to connect an iPod ?????

Here's a better buy :

£120 : New Orleans MP58 radio CD / MP3 / WMA receiver ( http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/neworleans.asp )

£ 15 : Apple iPod connecting lead ( http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/auxin_ipod.asp )

Just need the £15 facia adapter from Halfords.

Then you have a unit that will play iPods, play MP3 CDs, and USB memory sticks. Finally it includes a 2 year warranty including theft insurance.

edit : looks like that lead doesn't allow you to control the iPod.
