Squeaky Clutch

Hi all

In the past week my 04 avensis has developed a squak when I press the clutch down. The squeak is only audible when the clutch goes right to the floor (ie its only in the last moments of being pressed). This seems intermittent as it is perfectly quiet on some journeys. Is this something I should be worried about?

Thanks

Hi

This happened to me last year when the weather started getting cold. I sprayed some lithiuum grease on to all visible parts of the mechanism (including a piston like part that goes in when you press the clutch - sorry not technical!) inside the car and it has not happened again since. You need to get into the footwell upside down to see all the bits!

Hope this helps

The usual cause of a squeakk clutch is the pivot point on the clutch release fork. This is inside the bellhousing. Get someone to operate the clutch and listen with the bonnet open to confirm this. Removal of the rubber boot around the fork gives better access. You should then be able to reach with a finger and smear some lithium grease around the pin. If you use a spray be careful and only use a little to aviod any getting on the friction surfaces.
