Very unusual to get leaks in that model. Has any accessory or add ons like towbar been fitted? Can you leave the trim out for a while? You can usually see witness marks where the water has been running.

Cheers

Hmmmmm

things like the top of the rear suspension/shocks mounting point; window seals; ?roof lights whatever; rear door seal; any windows been replaced?

If the bottom of the ply board is wet and the carpet above the board is not, I would think it must be one or two of those big grommets in the dipped section perished or misfitted. When you took them out did you notice any pinch marks where they may not have been fitted correctly?

Was the water fairly clean or quite dirty/mucky ? I would imagine if it came from the top via a door/window leak it would be cleanish as would probably be rain ingress; if it came from below as road spray it would be a lot murkier.

Only place water comes in on my RAV4.2 at the back is the top of the door when opened - there is usually some standing water there, but not enough to make a pool.

I seem to remember with the 4.2, with long cold periods in the winter, if you lifted the carpet in that area, then there could be a fair amount of condensation on the metal body skin under the carpet, but never enough for it to pour away through the bungs.

Hi Tony I had the same problem as you and sent back to dealer, the car was 2 weeks old. After water testing they found the rear door seal to be not fitted properly as i had a tow bar and rear sensers fitted. They ordered and fitted a new seal and problem gone, hope this helps.

hi all thanks for your replys since i emptied boot of water from gromets it hasnt filled back up yet no extras added at all no glass exchange ether if it was seal arround door wouldnt my carpet be wet on top i had the same problem with my freelander it had a compartment under mat that got wet never found that one ether going to get hose pipe on it at the week end will update with my findings apart from this and the chirping arround front end (since stopped wd40) no other problems great drive very happy

As i have stated below and on this site a few months ago i had the same with my 3 week old rav,it turned out to be the rear door seal that was not replaced correctly at toyota from having towbar and rear sensers fitted.i was getting up to 4/5 litres of water in it when it rained and could hear it swishing around when driving.A new seal soryed out the problem, hope it helps.Cliff

PS If it is the rear door seal then the water gets into the rear well from base of door so there is no sign of it getting in as it does not wet the carpets. To check you need to take out the plastic tray that fits in the well held in by 4 push out tabs,id advise all owners to have a quick look to make sure.A tell tie sign is small water drops around those pull out tabs..

Most Freelander owners would take their vehicle back under warranty if it failed to fill up with water. It is part of the spec.

I followed one to Macclesfield yesterday which was very stressful - not knowing which way pieces will bounce when they fall off.

However, it turned off down a side road after about half a mile so didn't get stuck behind it when it broke down.

Yeah, but I bet the driver wanted to go straight on.
