Hi there,

I have posted on this forum before and read regularly, but then locked myself out and only just got round to getting back in.

Anyway, this could possibly be a question for Parts King as I see you have answered a few technical questions on here over time, however I would be grateful for anyone of you nice people to post your view.

My Aygo Black is now 15 months old and I have covered only 6,000. I noticed a few months ago, and please forgive me if I sound a little crazy, as it is very strange to describe, but when you press the brake (in normal braking situation) the pedal sometimes falls away from your foot if you know what I mean, you can feel resistance under your foot and then all of a sudden the pedal goes for what feels like an inch or so and then again you get pressure back. Also you can press the brake and some days they are fine, how you would expect them to be and other days I nearly put myself through the window.

I know that your all probably thinking, get that car to the garage as no time should be wasted when brakes are concerned, but this only happened very occasionally, perhaps once every two months but this week I notice that it is happening a few times daily.

Is this something to do with the the ABS or do you think I should have this looked at? My previous car was an old Micra 1999, so did not have any sort of ABS.

Also may I add that the braking is not affected, only yesterday I had to stop quickly as the neighbours dog ran out in front of the car, and the brakes worked a treat (and the neighbours dog is still alive!).

Any comments much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Lynn

Yeah, this happens all the time Lyndie and thankfully there is an easy solution.

Basically ask your neighbours to get a longish bit of rope and stake the dog securely to a post in the back garden. Then you won't have to worry about running it over next time

sounds like something to do with the servo to me

Happens to me also. Rarely, but it does happen.

There are no known problems with Aygo brakes specifically

I think there are a couple of points

A: The rear brakes MAY require adjustment, the pedal usually feels higher on the second pump when the REARS need adjusting

B: It could be that you just feel the servo working. Switch off the engine, pump the brake pedal several times until all the air is out of the servo, the pedal will feel hard. With the car out of gear  start the engine with your foot firmly on the brake pedal, it should go down slightly upon the engine running. This is the servo working properly

As with any brake issue, you should seek a professional opinion, you cant diagnose a problem via the keyboard :lol: Let me know how you get on, I doubt the brakes are actually faulty

Do they really? I thought that all modern cars have self adjusting rear brakes

They do, but you can manually adjust them by a few more clicks ;)
