2007 Rav4 Power Door Locks/alarm Problem

I just bought a used 2007 RAV4.

However, it didn't come with a booklet for the alarm system (added after it came from the factory; the red light is positioned near the engine hood release; I can't ascertain if the alarm was added by the Toyota dealer or by the previous owner).

After I've shut off the engine, if I lock the doors while I'm still sitting in the vehicle, the alarm automatically turns on. Hence, when I open the door, the alarm goes off. (This is unlike my '98 Camry; if I simply lock the doors with the ignition off, the alarm doesn't turn on. I have to turn it on with the remote keyless entry fob.)

How can I reset the alarm so that it doesn't turn on if I lock the doors without the keyfob?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Bob

Welcome to the club.

I'm afraid we don't have that version of the alarm. Our red light is up near the heater controls and it takes 30 seconds to arm but the inside sensors can be disabled. If yours is the same I suggest you remove that entire system and revert to the factory fitted alarm.

Are there no clues to the manufacturer?

Can you contact the previous owner for the manual?

Have yo tried posting a simmilar question on R4W?

Cheers
