Hi all,

I am new to this site and have two questions.

I am looking at buy a Rav4 XTR 2.2l diesel with in the next couple of months. I have noticed however that the 2007 models no longer have a full sized spare wheel on the rear but instead have a puncture repair kit in the boot. I like both 2006 (rear spare wheel) and 2007 (no rear spare wheel) models of the Rav4 but had a job convincing my wife of the 2006 RAV4 as she dislikes SUV's with spare wheels on the back. My wife wanted to get the new 2007 Honda CRV as it has no spare wheel on the rear but once out in the 2007 Rav she fell in love with it and even more so as the spare wheels now gone off the rear.

The problem I now find my self facing is should I get a 2007 model and the tyre goes flat I have to folk out £'s to buy a new tyre as the punctured one will no longer be fit for use once filled with the goo supplied in the puncture repair kit. If I had a spare like on the 2006 models I could then replace the wheel and get the punctured one repaired.

Question time :unsure:

1) Has anyone out there had a similar problem due to a lack of a spare?

2) Is do you get parking sensors as standard on the 2006 Rav4 XTR?

Thanx :D

Hi + welcome, as far as i am aware no XTR, after 2006 (the latest shape) has a spare wheel,until very very recently the XT3/4/5 all have a spare on the back, the top of the range T180 has a completely different runflat system, which if you have any concerns about tyre costs might best be avoided, although a brilliant vehicle. I dont think parking sensors are standard on the Xtr, but are a £300 option although if you are looking for a nearly new rav a lot will have them fitted, If you want to be welcome on here best not to mention the Honka CRV (only joking) which we refer to as The ugly one..Child Rescue Vehicle..or Council Refuse Van, Also freelanders (nedflanders) are a definite no no as well, :thumbsup: Unless you wish to slag them off, which is not only O.K but highly reccomended..

Hi mate and welcome to TOC. As I remember, from Jan 07 the parking sensors came as standard on the XT-R.

As for the spare wheel problem, my solution was buy an aftermarket alloy and tyre for £180.

I guess your choice is made for you by SWMBO (RAV4, no Spare on rear door - much nicer then CR-V).

How to deal with that situation - You could carry a spare in the boot (some people do that); if you use the repair kit, is it sure that the tyres are not repairable after using the gunk/goo? For sure, it is pretty well a no-no for wheels fitted with Tyre Pressure monitors, and I understand some repairers like to suck through their teeth and shake their heads when faced with this, but could be worth checking with a couple of decent tyre fitters who deal with up to date cars, now that this stuff is becoming very common.

Re the parking sensors - if you don't have them fitted on the car you end up buying, it is not that hard to add on - either Toyota or non-Toyota ones (but it is sure more convinient if they are in place :thumbsup: )

Welcome to the Forum - lets us know what's happening ;)

The parking sensors are very worthwhile but save yourself a wad of money and buy the genuine ones off Kingo and fit them yourself.

Welcome to the club.

Thank you to all who responded to my questions.

I have booked an appointment at my local Toyota dealer this Saturday and shall let you know the out come Rav4 2006 or Rav4 2007. I do however have another two questions.....

1) Who is Kingo? :huh:

2) How easy / hard is it to fit parking sensors on the Rav and what tools are needed? :o

Thanx all :D

Parking sensors;

If you are the least bit practical do this yourself. Remove the blanking rings before the paint has fully dried or it will peel some off. Kingo will sell you all the genuine parts and aerosol paint and deliver it to your door for less than you can normally buy it. It looks a bit intimidating - taking the bumper off but set out your stall on a nice day, a big piece of cloth or carpet and you will enjoy yourself.

Contact Kingo by pm for prices;
