Hi Guys,

Am thinking of getting the SR 180 but have heard lots of horror stories about diesel engines and DPF problems-clogging up etc and costing £1500-00 to replace.Any feedback on the Toyota engine would be appreciated.

I read an article today regarding VW's new diesel engine, in a passat, that was about a guy who didn't listen to the salesman when he said with this diesel engine and DPF he HAD to drive at least 40 miles a week on the motorway to keep his DPF unclogged. He didn't so it clogged up. As a good will gesture VW replaced it free of charge. He did the same thing again, not drive 40 miles on the motorway a week, and low and behold it clogged up again. He was presented with a £1500 bill.

This was in Auto-Express MAG and for a Passat. Toyota might be totally different but something to bear it mind.............

Thats my point-are there any problems with the Toyota engine? can you drive week to week without having to take the car for a blast down the motorway. What does the owners handbook say?.I know VAG owners with the 140 and 170 bhp diesel engines are having lots of problems with their dpf's.

I dont think you will find the Toyota DPF clogs up, you do need to give them a good run regularly but I cant think of us ever replacing one, even for someone who does little mileage or motorway work

Kingo

I do not think that you would buy a diesel if you are not an above average consumer of miles.

The T/SR 180 does not use the same DPF technology as the others it uses the OneAndOnly D-CAT technology (Toyota Diesel Clean Advanced Technology).

  • 1 month later...

you dont even need to take the T180 on the motorway once a week, all u need to do is accelerate with the throttle full down in 2nd or 3rd gear every now and again, and behind you in the rear view you should see some smoke on some accelerations, then you will know you have cleared the cobwebs :D

boozehound is quite right. After commuting at slow speeds give it max revs in 2nd and 3rd every 100 miles. That will keep things well cleared. My wife only does short 6 mile runs to and from work each day so I bluter it for her. 25,000 miles now and never a whiff of a problem with DPF.

I woud also stick to premium diesel, V power diesel if u can, my auris has had nothing but V power Diesel in it since i picked it up brand new. Trust me its worth it. Toyota tested the 2.2 DCAT engine in conjuction with Shell
