Need Help, Opinions On Choosing Rav4 Or Cr-v

Hi there all, new here

I already have a toyota celica, absolutely love it but i need more space to fit my expanding family. I am considering either a RAV4 (00-06) or a CR-V (01-06)

The RAV4 looks better than the CR-V especially with the nudge bar and side steps, does slightly more mpg, and apparently has sharper handling. But apparently has less luggage space. Is this true. www.parkers.co.uk says it has 150L of boot space. So far can't find any information on whether the rear seats fold flat or not.

The CR-V while being in my opinion not as good looking as the RAV4 does seem to have more practicality as the boot space seems to be much larger. Again not sure if the rear seats fold flat on a CR-V.

Both cars have Jap reliability and can do 0-60 in under 11 secs.

How have people found the luggage space on a RAV4? Has anyone here had a CR-V and moved to the RAV4? Did anyone else have this dilema or am i the only one?

I used to work for Honda UK :P

01-06 CRV's are a good car, whatever these RAV4's may say! The major issue i have with that car is it feels a little unstable when cornering and braking as the centre of gravity is high. Other than that they are a solid car.

rav 4 true not got a lot of boot space but the honda well it would not be my choice of motor, so i guess thats just my opinion and i did look at the honda and the rav so took the cash to toyota a few years back and stuck with them ever since.

My toyota dealership i found to be on the ball with any complaints i've ever had with them and done all work i needed within a short period of time from complaint to repair, i can not praise them enough thats why i have stuck with toyota.

The young part of me says go for the fun RAV4, the sensible booring side of me and the wife says go for the CR-V..... I need convincing that the RAV4 is sensible... i really dig the looks

Think of your family and friends, having to drive around in the Ugly one..The trauma of the kids, and counselling afterwards for Stress and taunts from onlookers laughing and pointing...... :D :D

The RAV is the better vehicle, the seats fold against the front passengers... and your be surprised  how much they can accommodate even before you tilt them, also slide for and aft so more leg room or more boot space.....

Just that mentioning the C   3 letters on here triggers all sorts of images of burning at the stake and pitch fork wielding rampant pose crowds bating for get him get him....

Only medication is to get the RAV and come join in the FUN............

think you mean you owned it at Ren97? ;)

CR-V versus RAV4

Reckon they are pretty equal on reliability, but I think Toyota just tops it on both Dealer Quality (assuming you not near one of the rogues) and Product Quality, but probably not solely enough to make a decision.

Driving Wise? I drove the OLD CR-V ( from 2 generations ago and one before the one you are looking at) and found it boring - bought the HR-V instead.

Not driven the New CR-V myself as it would be pointless as it is such a horrible looking car I could not contemplate ever buying one - that may be shallow but if it were the best driving car in the world, I still could not bring myself to own one.

And the CR-V in-between .... again did not drive it but went for RAV4.2 as it is such a better looking car and more interesting all round.

Why not take a representation of your boot needs and test each car with it - like they do in the car programs. FWIW, even though the CR-V is a larger vehicle, I have got far more stuff in my RAV4 then I ever expected to.

Wish i knew how to post this anonymously, cos i think Honka make a good car, mechanicaly on a par with Toyota, but their design is awful, the CRV you are thinking of looks like a fiat doblo on steroids, and the wheels look too small + adding steps and roofrails doesn't help either, although i believe you do get a fold up picnic table in the boot, probably so you can eat as far away from the car as possible and people won't know its yours

Love these type threads......

When I owned an MGF/TF it was MG V MX

Now I own a VX220 it's VX V Elise

I just wish I was in a position to go on the Ferrari Forum and ask which is better the 599 or the DB9

wot a lot of nonsense.....0-60 in 11secs? Could cycle faster.

Ma 3 door RAV 0-60 is quick and will be quicker when I stop drinking the nitrous! Do yersel a favour - get rid of the family. I did. And then threw the 2 back seats oot the back of the RAV. Lightens the load. Improves the mpg.

And the acceleration for overtaking is unreal. A CRV? Is that not what you get for ingrowing toenails?

I've just remebered that most of the CRV's dont have ESP, now combine that with the stabilty concern and it can get a little bit scary. Not sure if the RAV's got ESP at this age, but am willing to bet someone on here will

:bag::bag::bag::batman::bag::bag::bag:

Reading through all of this everything points to how GREAT the RAV is...

I do believe that all new RAVs have got ESP and some have even got VSC...

:bangin: JOIN :bash: :group-cuddles: the Ravvers ... you know you want to REALLY!!!! ;)

If that dont work fellow Ravvers... then I think  Chatman  needs to give it another try....

Got home yesterday and the wife surprised me by saying she knows what i mean about the CR-V being ugly. She said she saw a CR-V and didn't like it much. So it looks like the RAV4 is gonna replace the Celica.

Any tips on what i should look out for when viewing RAV4s. Is there any particular trim level i should avoid or go for.

Thanks guys

I would have a look at a top spec one and then decide what you can live without and work down from there.

I bought an XT3 and overtime have added extra features that would - If I bought a higher spec at the start - would have already had and may well have saved money overall.

Think you mentioned the RAV4.2 (01-06) generally? Go for 'facelift' model with round foglights and you get a more comprehensive package of airbags.

XT-R gives some nice extras, some came with leather as well. As Hoovie says start at the top and work your way down

depending on your needs. Good luck

The thing which I personally would have really liked in hindsight was Climate Control, rather then Manual A/C (more knobs to press ) - which is on XT4, XT-R and XT-5

And even though I have 'pimped' my RAV4 with Cruise Control and Heated Leather seats, it was still a fine car before. Specifications of the RAV4 are pretty good to start with

I saw a new-shape RAV4 (55 plate) at the dealers this morning for under £10,000. Not sure what spec - I reckon must be entry - but not seen a RAV4.3 under £10k before.

The SUV sector is getting hammered by the price guides constantly, even the small ones are on the receiving end. Most of the leasing companies are very worried as they have set the residuals high and the values slipping.

A bargain for some, bad news for others.
