Hi all,I'm a newbie,viewed often but never posted!

HELP!,Just bought my first Toyota,a low mileage,fsh,Corolla auto.Nice car but i'm bit concerned about their reputation for drinking oil due to a bore liner problem :( .

Is this a common problem?Is the likely occurence linked to engine no's or age or mileage?

Also tyre noise seems to be a bit higher than i would have liked,or am i being over fussy?

Any general impressions from owners of this auto model would be nice(1.6 Colour Collection Auto).

I have a 55 plate 1.6 auto T-Spirit so comments will be generally relevant I guess.

I too have heard of the oil issue - I think it has been covered several times on the forum - but can't recall what precisely it is related to. All I can say is that my car has now done 24k miles and has yet to use any oil at all between service changes.

I think the full auto box on the E12 Corolla is superb. Quiet, smooth and just feels great. The car is, IMHO, very well built for a general production car and the interior plastics quality is way superior to the Auris replacement.

As for tyre noise I have never noticed a problem. Overall, I find the car very quiet to be honest. My car was shod with Michelin Energies from new which are good for wear generally. I needed to replace the front tyres recently (around 22k) and did look at tyres regarded as quiet. In the end I chose Dunlop FastResponse which seemed to come out as a particularly quiet tyre in reviews though time will tell on the wear front. In practice, the car certainly remains quiet and I think it is a little quieter than before.

I too have a Corolla Auto 1.6 Colour Collection 06.

It has never needed the oil topping up between services. In fact their has been no need to top up anything, apart from the screen washer reserve.

I have not noticed excessive tyre noise from the Michelin Energies.

I agree with geoffb, it is a superb car, well built and reliable. Plus fun to drive.

Cant be 100%, but i believe the oil issue is only connected the 1.8 VVTI found in the Celica and Avensis 01-06, i haven't heard of any issues on 1.6's.
