Screeching Noise From ...?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My wifes Aygo Black has been generating a screeching noise whilst (primarily) changing from 1st gear to 2nd gear. The sound is definitately a metallic screeching noise of some sort...maybe belts???

Every time we take the car to Toyota they ask if its wheel spin from the tyres.....ehhhh no its a 1.0 litre Aygo. They have also suggested stripping the clutch and checking for wear on it....if wear to the clutch is found the repair will not be covered under warranty and we will be charged for inspection!!! The car has only done 22k miles.

Anyway at our wits end as its due to be out of warranty soon, has anyone had a similar problem, if so how did you fix it??

Thanks,

Nicky.

Hi There.

My first thought is the clutch release bearing.

Can you make the noise by sitting with your foot on the clutch

with the engine running while the car is stationary?

Do you or your wife "ride" the clutch?

that can cause premature wear.

Just suggestions.

Hope it's not serious.

Ian.

I had the same. Was the clutch. Tell the service desk person to get the garage forman to go for a quick drive with you. He will then decide it is a warrenty issue.

I've been getting that alot from 20k - its now at 26k

Told that every car does it and its not thier problem.

Same problem here too. Sounds like the clutch to me. It squeaks as I change gear if I feed in the clutch and use the accelerator at the same time. Doesn't happen if I keep off the accelerator until the clutch is engaged. It's not just changing from 1st to 2nd for me either.

EDIT: Started noticing this at about 18k and I'm on 22k now.
