Glove Box Keeps Falling Open

Since I got my new Aygo 6 months ago it has had a problem where the glove box just randomly opens of its own volition. This is usual after travelling over uneven ground or poor road surfaces. I decided to phone Toyota and ask if I was covered under warranty. No problems at all, they ordered a new part and told me to call in in a couple of days and they'd fit the new part in 15 minutes.

I did call in, they did fit it in 15 minutes and I got in the car to drive away much happier that this minor niggle had been sorted. Before I set off from the dealers I thought I'd best test it. The handle came off in my hand! I went back in and they checked to see if there were any upgrades to the part as the older and newer versions didn't have this problem. They said there is a slight change in design meaning that the glove handle has now got a spring loaded mechanism. I'm now waiting to get the newer version, I'll keep you posted!

OK an update for anyone that's interested. My original glove box kept falling open, so I went back to the dealers where they put on a replacement. This fell off, so they ordered me another. Today I went in for a 2nd replacement, I opened the glove and this fell off in my hand (it's not that I'm a great hamfisted so and so!) so I went straight back in and they fitted another one (this now the 4th one!) The fitter told me he had to file down the plastic catch a bit so it would fit in.

To be honest it looks a bit of a mess, a real cowboy job!

Also told if it comes off again to keep going back with it. Hmm, I can see my evenings and weekends at Toyota for the forseeable future. I think they need a proper fix for this problem and then do a recall. As it stands I think this could prevent me from buying another Toyota.
