Picking Up Reverse Light Power

Trying to get a feed from the RHS Reverse Light and having a problem - got the light on and there is a Black&White Wire and a Black wire - and I cannot work out which is the +12V

Put the DMM on it and neither seem to be registering a voltage

Lookied in the Manual at the Back-up Light wiring diagram and according to that, the colours seem to be R-Y supply and W-B ground (Red-Yellow and White-Black?) - as I don't have a wire that could be R-Y, I cannot trust the W-B to be ground)

It is very awkward to get to the wiring (like to avoid taking the side trim off) so cannot be fully sure I am getting the probe properly inserted.

Anyone know which of the two will be the power and which is the ground?

from memory, the black is maybe the ground, then again maybe not. The black is ground on my central heating system; and on the landrover. Did you try it with the engine running and the car in reverse gear? :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Try measuring the resistance between each wire and a metal object preferably fastened to the metal on the car...that should pick up which is ground.

This picture is from the parking sensor instructions and shows the location of the feed at the light unit plug. I've fitted sensors and found the diagrams accurate;

I printed off the installation instructions from another post of yours - but these Toyota instructions never have any words to go with the pics. I'll double check the wire I chose againt the plug position.

I am pretty sure the black and white wire is ground as I checked the other lights and everyone had a black and white wire going to it. Still don't get why I have no volts showing (Battery is - as usual - a bit flat and won't even start the car but still has about 9V and the reverse light IS on)

According to my wiring diagram the feeds are red with a blue trace and red with a yellow trace.

The earths are both white with a black trace.

yup - that is what I saw in the diagram - not what the lights have, though

I'll make a couple of notes tomorrow when I finish off :)
