Vibraton While Braking !

My car starts vibrating while braking in high speeds. Till the speed of 70 its ok but if I go over it and brake it really vibrates. I am not sure if its the ABS or not. Whatever it is I don't feel that good about it. Steering also suddenly becomes light weight and vibrates a lot. As soon as the speed reduces it stops..

I don't feel that confident driving because of this.. Does anyone know what and why is it happening. I haven't shown it to a mechanic.. or put it this way my car is about 9 years old and it has ABS.. I have heard that ABS gives you a bit of vibration, but this one is, atleast I think, a bit more than that I suppose...

Can someone help me out to figure this? Also if its an issue, jow serious it is and how much will it cost to get it fixed?

Could be warped discs or a stuck brake caliper slide.

Does it slow down in a straight line or pull one side or the other?

Quite possibly one of your rotors is warped and that will cause what you describe. This condition cannot be easily seen while doing just a visual inspection. This is a fairly common problem of cars.

warped discs. if you can guesstimate and see which side it is, then take that wheel off. jack the car up and turn the hub round, you'll probably see the warpage.

It doesn't stop in a straight line... It moves around a bit and thats what scares the ***** out of me :(

If it's pulling to one side then one of the brakes on one side isn't working as well as the other. This cause one wheel to be subjected to a greater force than the other hence pulling the car that way and you have to compensate by steering the opposite way to keep it straight.

I would take it to a garage and ask them to have a look for you.
