well done on an excellent pressie!! Hubby has class

Photos would be good....and what mileage has it done?

Broadly, the car is pretty robust. I found common things like the drivers seat cushion upright bits seem to collapse; and the earlier alarm system was naff. The rear suspension bushes wear out after about 80,000 miles. The front brake calipers were a source of problems to me as they kept sticking on. And the dust shield around the front brakes fell off a year ago due to rust. Another is the breather pipe for the petrol tank...it follows up with the petrol filler pipe and is protected by a plastic shield which gathers road muck and leads to the pipes rotting. Thats the plastic shield in the nearside rear wheel well.

Aside of that, its a fun car. Any niggles with it can be brought to the forum here where a small handful of us are supporters of the 4.1 petrol.

Small, but meaningful!

Yours is a 4.2 model, if you look at Anchormans link in this post, all will be revealed -

I too am a new Rav4 owner. I bought a 4.3 TX5 a couple of months ago and have now reached the point where i can assess whether my purchase was wise or not. Happily I am still delighted with it! Once the npovelty of a new and different car has worn off, one can usually settle down to unexciting ownership. Not so with this vehicle. I still love and look forqward to driving it. My previous car was a large comfortable exec saloon and since I am an old man of 6'4" with a bad back I did have some misgivings about possible discomfort over longish periods of driving but it gives me no problems whatever. From reading so many of the posts in this excellent forum, (how refreshing to find friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people who are not bent on abuse), I have the feeling that it is the 4.1s and 4.2s which engender the fiercest loyalty, and I must say that in appearance they do seem to have rather more rugged character about them. However, I am encouraged by the fact that the excellenr Anchorman has a 4.3. If it's good enough for him it's ........ . Thanks to all of those regular contributors who have made this forum a wonderful source of information and a delight to follow.

Hi Ravmandave

you know Anchorman likes the RAV4.2 better really ;)

They are all good - and as you have seen, almost all are happy with what they run, so it's all good

there are a few polls you can vote on - especially the "what toyota do you drive" - VERY important you vote in that one ;)

aye and he drives trains as well! He only has a 4.3 cos it reminds him of the staid take off of a dieselly loco

Me loyal to a 4.1?? Where on earth did you get that impression??

By the way, anyone got a CT20 turbo they don't want? Looking to up the bhp on RAV number 1 soon!! Burst the 400bhp level. Or even a Greddy turbo of a size to take the engine beyond 500bhp - a RAV4 4.1 wi 500bhp? gosh!
