Weird Alarm/locking Problem

Folks

I hope someone can help....

My wifes 04 XT3 has developed a fault in that the remote fob stopped locking/unl;ocking the doors.

She has tried both fobs, which had batteries fitted (both) over the last 6 months.

The RED LED is bright on both fobs.

The car does not react with any lights or locks when pressed.

if you unlock the car with the key in the drivers door, then use the door unlock button on the driver door panel, then the central locking works fine as expected.

The security LED flashes on the dash when locked with the key.

So...just no remote locking....any ideas?

Dear david of sunny Scotland

perhaps its the same problem that I have in the sunny climes here ....I have a Battery warning light just come on the dash panel and won't go off despite checking the alternator and its fuse; and that the belt is still on - === the RAV went thru a deep puddle 2 days ago and that seems to coincide with the fault. Perhaps you have gone thru the same puddle???

Does it do it when it is parked anywhere, or only in a few particular places?

Sometimes pressing and holding the two red buttons until it locks synchronises the remote.

Thanks for the replies Chaps.

The fault is present regardless of where it is parked.

Two buttons? I assume its both buttons on the remote fob pressed together?

Is there a procedure to resync the fob with the car? I assume there will be... and ISTR that the immobiliser needs dealer, but hope the remote has a user friendly option...

I have autoenginuity (with toyota module) - I guess I should give it a try... but dont hold up too much hope.

I will check with Wifey re puddles.... you never know... she has surprised me before with stories of being in fields...

Can anyone confirm if the remote receiver is a separate module (location?) or integrated in a body control module (or similar)?

Thanks for the help.... the last thing we need is another bill to pay!

Separate receiver on 4.2 I believe. Sorry, don't know location. Its earth is shown as "left of quarter panel"??? and I expect the receiver is close by(ish). Maybe somebody else has a location diagram.

Hopefully it is just a sync thing anyway.

made some progress in tracking down my problem - the big puddle probably knocked off the rear wheel brake sensor wire. The alternator is a different issue and just lit the warning co-incidentally! Guess it doesn't like getting churned around at 7000rpm!! And Dennis at The Garage reckons it might be the proximity of the heat from the turbo...anyone do a water cooled alternator? I'm not bad for spare ones having had 3 donor MR2s!

Good luck with sorting your remote problem.
