Hi all,

Just wondering what the shock absorbers on a standard Yaris T sport are based on, I always

assumed they were gas until my MOT garage (vauxhall) says near side front is leaking oil......and wants to

charge me £250+ vat :( for replacing it. For what it's worth car still seems fine - I can't see

any leaks, only done 47k motorway miles so far.

Any information greatly appreciated.

I have my standard Tsport suspension just hanging on the wall in my garage,

i took it off to fit my coilovers not long after i had my yaris.

I no longer own the yaris [ see my replacement thread ]

so if you need it make me an offer and it's yours.

Hi

Even gas shocks have oil in them, its the air in the rest of the shock that is replaced with pressurised gas, not the oil.

Considering the weight of a car and the pounding they take, that mileage sounds fair for a pair of shocks. The garage would probably be quoting you for a pair, too. Always replace two, even if you fit used ones!

Thanks for letting me know - but it passed at another garage, see below.

The car was taken back off the Vauxhall garage - told them I'd shop around as I didn't want to hire a car from them too, bloke at the other end of the phone went very quiet.......

Took it to a garage recommended by my sister and it passed 1st time without a hitch. Asked them about the major oil leak in the osf shock, they replied: "What leaking shock?"

I will have to talk to trading standards.

Cheers for the replies.
