Heating System Seems To Only Work At 20%

I have a 51 plate RAV4 VS, it is actually my wifes, but I drove it the other day and noticed the cars heating system was not working as it should. WHen you turn the fan on even on full it seems to be "surpressed" and blows about 20% as much as I would expect..... even when you put it into demist it it is bordering on the pathetic. The other day (It is starting to get cold!!) I was waiting for my daughter to finish her piano lesson and the windscreen misted up, I tried everything to clear it but ended up having to drive with the windows open.....

Any one had similar or have any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the club.

Just take a look at this thread. It tells you how to change the cabin filter which if blocked will completely starve the cabin of air;

To start with just take it out until you get a new one and make sure the heater inlet is set to fresh air rather than recirculate. Our parts man Kingo will post you one to your house at a discounted rate. Click on the link below thenn send him a pm with your details.

I've been meaning to ask this question for ages - I have A/C on always, with the air circulation switched on - ie internal.

Obviously I switch this off whenever one of the girls pump, but what should be my day to day (non wife/daughter) setting?

Anyone know whether we should be recycling outside or inside air?

Cheers, Lee (not from Wigan)

I have mine set to outside unless there is something 'out there :fear:' that I don't want to bring in (lots of farm smells, for example!). Also recycle initially (2 mins or so) to get the car interior either up or down to required temp when starting off and then move setting to outside.

Anyway, that's what I do :)

if you set control to internal always, the air will get stale and moist and fog the windows up soon as the A/C is off?

I've always understood you shouldn't recirculate air for more than 15 mins. I'm pretty sure BMWs I've had in the past would automatically go onto outside air after 15 minutes on recirculated

recirculating internal air is what airlines do is it not??? And that why 50% of the flying population have upper respiratory tract infections. The others using the tube get fumigated. And in Scotland we just get blown about :lol:
