I own Verso 2004 for 3 years. Bought it new. Recently, I have noticed that the steering wheel is kind of hard to turn. I mean, it was always like this but I have driven a number of cars in meantime (Mercedes A, Auris, Renault Clio) and found that in all of them I can turn the steering effortless. Is it normal that the Verso steering is considerably harder?

Another question. I have also noticed that when I drive even on a flat road, there is always sort of wobbling/vibartion of the steering wheel. The frequency of that wobbling is higher when I drive faster. I have not seen anything like this on any other car I drove. Is this normal?

Any help is greatly appreciated

If you think your Verso is not the same as all other Verso then the easy way to check is to go into any Toyota dealer and ask for a test drive of a similar spec model on their forecourt.

For wobbles the first thing to check is tyres, tread and pressure. Next you can get the wheels balanced to see if that helps, after that you might be better off getting a Toyota dealer to look at it.

Have always found the steering on my 2.2D4D Verso SR to be heavy. It is also very slow geared. Strange combination of being both heavy, and needing a lot of turning of the wheel to corner.

As for the wobbling, as per the previous reply, get it checked out - it shouldn't be doing that. On that note, mine had out of balance wheels from new, and it took 3 attempts to balance them, both fronts now have 10 balance weights each, more than any other car I have ever owned.

Thank you very much for the replies. I will definitely let it be checked by the dealer

Well, the problem was partially solved. There was too low pressure in the front tires, which created higher than normal friction resulting in havier steering. The difference in the tire pressure was the direct cause of the steering wobbling and vibration. As soon as tires were pumped up to normal the wobbling/vibration disappeared and the steering became lighter. However, it is still havier as compared to some other brands I tried. The dealer told me that this is normal for the Corolla Verso.

Hope it will help.
