Help Asap - Good Deal Or Not For A 07 Avensis T-spirit?

Replacement car for 'me maa' and popped into our local Toyota dealership (used dept) and found the following car.

June/07 Reg Toyota Avensis T-spirit 2.2 D4D in black

10,500k on the clock... black... T-spirit is the highest spec, inc in dash touch screen satnav, black leathers, electric seat adjstment, cruise etc etc... Pristine condition and looks like it just come off the production line.

'Apparently' it was up for £14k for 4 weeks and they then reduced it to £13k a week prior to us walking into the dealership.

They were not going to budge with the price and best they could do was throw in a years road tax to which we said we would think about it and get back to them.

Having decided £12k is our budget, i rang the chap up at the dealership and told him that we are going to give it a miss as £12k is max we can stretch. He told me to leave it with him and he got back to me 15min later stating they would accept the £12k for it.

Had a look on the Trader and none seem to be below £12900 and none of them are black, all silver/grey etc.

Glasses guide says in excellent condition the car is worth £12k p/x.

Anyone got anything further to add? Off today to put the deposit down after work so thought id ask quickly...

cheers in Advance.

Last week I bought a 7,132 mile TR 2.2D, registered 1st March 2008, 08 plate, in Silver from Motorpoint. Same spec as yours except for leather (had that in the Lexus, didn't wanat it again) and electric seat (I'm the only one drives it... so why adjust.. ). It was ex Enterprise Rent-a-wreck so history unsure (but that is true everywhere). Seems fine. I paid £11,999. I suspect prices will keep dropping.

a) Get an RAC report - it either says don't touch it or gives you some bargaining power...

B) 10,500 is very near 10,750. I spoke with Mr T and he said the warranty wants to see service history within 750 miles of due mileage so I'd make sure if you buy she's serviced before 10,750. (Yes, the dealer will so "oh that's not an issue, don't worry", but try making that stick when the engine goes bang in 2 years time...

c) Sat Nav may be out-of-date will dealer update it for free?? (Mr T price is more than a more usable, cheaper, etc. TomTom..)

If you need more evidence post here and ask. (Trade Sales and Motorpoint have TRs, 08, 2.2D).

No, I have no relationship with either company .

Service will be done prior to the pickup :), dont know about the upto date sat nav but then will cross that bridge when weneed to. :) Also got a Tom Tom anyway... in addition it seems to double up as a DVD player. bonus!

You seem to have got a bargin mate... hopefully ours will be a good buy as well. Its an ex Demo car as well hence the full top spec in black.

To be honest i wouldent really buy the car because the new shape avensis is due out in a few mounths , thats just me other people could be different 12,000 seems an awful lot of money when i know for a fact that due to the current financial situation a lot of car dealers are practicaly giving cars away as they are worried about the depreciation ,,, i bought an 06 2.2 d4d t3x with 40,000 miles on it 2 mounths ago for 6,600! im in Norn Ireland too btw !

I hear what your saying but by the same time i have looked across the whole of the UK and could not find cheaper... as already stated this is a ex demo car with only 10K on the clock and was made just over a year ago in the top spec and all in black...

£21k down to £12k in 1 year... cant say that its paying too much now can ya?

I used to go over to the UK to purchase family car every other year or so, as everything (VRT - TAX) here is a big rip - off. Sounds good on paper your deal, but as suggested by above FORUM USER Irishjay the ***** has fallen out of the market here. Dealers are absolutely rammed with cars they just cannot sell, i know of massive car pens down in Co Waterford full of UK spec cars awaiting to be transfered onto Irish plates. But they cannot sell Irish registered cars so they are stuck with these over inflated priced cars & the UK spec cars. I can save an absolute fortune just heading North. I know bigger population in Uk so a more vibrant market, but as also suggested with new model coming out old shape prices will plummet. Keep your powder dry to Christmas, the car you are after may sell but you will find a pile more cars for sale at the same spec. Car spec sounds great, but i think Toyota can drop price by quite a lot, i had allways fault salesmen had targets to hit & the best time to buy was towards the end of a month? Try car insurance quote from start of month & try again at the end - big drop in price. Everybody has to hit targets.

Your call, if you like car & you like the price then buy, but i would still be knocking them on price for a lot more.

Similar yes but alas the model we have bought is the face lift model with the sat nav etc in the center console and that car has 40K on the clock as well as being on a 56 plate..

Beagh1958 - I dont doubt that cars over the river have been hit in terms of value but that really aint too much of an issue here as TDI's seem to be holding out not too bad.

Either way.. at the time of the deposit being put down it was the cheapest on the market for the car spec/miles/condition/colour. :)
