Rattel/clatter On Test Drive

I recently test drove an Auris SR 180 at a local dealer in Aberdeen & was very impressed, unfortuanly not with the cost.

I returned home & found exactly what I was looking for at a Toyota dealership in Manchester. I gave a deposit over the phone in order for them to hold the car & went down to test drive the car later that week.

On the test drive, i noticed a destintive diesel clatter just as the turbo was kicking in around 2000RPM, which I didn't notice on the one I test drove locally. The car I drove was a 57' plate, 7000 miles demonstrator.

Is this somthing I didn't notice on the first car, or does the one I've purchased in Manchester have a problem??

Also when I called the insurance company, they tell the the registration number ties in with a T180, and not an SR180, but it has all the usual SR extras, tinted windows, 180 alloys, but it also has sunroof & keyless entry which I thought the SR didn't have?

I'm supposed to collect the car on the first Nov, have I bought a duffer??

Both my original T180 and current SR180 had/have a "rough point" around 2,000 RPM when the engine just sounds more like a Diesel Engine than it normally does. As far as I know it's common accross many manufacturers these days. As it's been the same on the two cars I've had I really don't think it's anything to worry about.

When changeover happened early 2008 from T180 to SR180, there was a crossover point where you had the best of both worlds, the extra refinements like sunroof and keyless of the T180, and Tints, spoiler, and lowered suspension of the SR180. At the time dealers didnt know what SR180's they'd be getting, whether it was a "changeover car" or a "SR180 Brochure Spec".

My personal advice is don't worry, enjoy, and post some pictures of you're new car once you have collected it.

Hey Cubby,

I also live in Peterhead!!

Ive got a grey 3 dr Auris, with spoiler and 17" alloys.

I will look out for your new car once it arrives - what colour is it??

There is a black 180 driving around, but no idea who owns it?

Thanks Lads, was begining to panic.

Its Bright Red, I,m also looking to add the T.M.S front & side skirts before collecting the car.

Andytran, I think I seen your car sitting in the ASDA carpark one night last week, do you have red calipers fitted??

Mines the same - 15k on the clock and anything other than light acceleration reveals a brief diesel clatter spot around where you said. This sound is when the engine is producing the most torque. Beginning 1.8 - 2.6k i believe.

No issues with mine at all - do expect some diesel clatter, more when cold! It is a diesel after all :) engine is sweet in every other way. Mines definatly a bit smoother recently. I think the gearbox loosening up has something to do with that.
