Apexi Power Intake

Hi Guys,

Nice forum...Hope you can advise...

Bought a T Sport (02 Pre Facelift) a few months back and have finally got round to buying an Apexi Power Intake from Nengun.com which looks awesome.

I have the kit now but am struggling to make sense out of the fitting diagrams and since the instructions are in japanese i wanted to see if any of you could answer some of my questions first....or if any of you have an english pdf version maybe ???

1) The stock air feed pipes that run from the block to like a switching sensorin front of the air box seem to have no place on the new intake. From the pics on this forum it looks as though you have cable tied them under the pipe?? Is this correct and if so does anyone have a little more detail on this? Does the bracket on the switching sensor come off??

2) Similarly above/behind the air box there is another connector for the air feeds? what happens to these?

After staring blankly at the engine bay for a little while i am under the impression that most of the air feeds .

are removed and the bung is used to cover the exit on the block???

Any help/advice/pics are welcomed....i so desperatly want to get this fitted.

Cheers,

Ian

Go onto the K&N site and nab there instructions. Sorted :D

Its not a K&N though!

I have had a look at the instructions for the typhoon but that application includes mounting brakets for things like the switching sensors.

The apexi kit seems to want me to use cable ties instead.

Just need to make sure this is correct.

Thanks for the suggestion anyhow.

Thanks again Gaz,

Fitted the kit today and so far so good. Theres a very definite improvement in throttle response and torque mid range not to mention an almighty roar when going past 3,500rpm and then on to lift. :)

One thing I did notice from some of your pics was that you left the air feeds on. I pretty much followed the K&N instructions to the T but consulting the jap instructions I decided to remove the feeds as the bung is detailed in the diagrams to cap off one of the outlets on the engine block.

This just left me with a brown connector unplugged (near the battery)....anyways reconnected everything bar this and she started up first time no problem.

Is the connector (brown) near the Battery on yours connected? Cant tell from the pic.

Thanks again...

Ian

Do you mean the brown connector visible near the Battery here:

And just visible cable tied underneath here:

I blocked off one outlet on the T piece with the rubber bung supplied. The hose that disconnected was attached to the original airbox.

Didn't have any loose bits left after fitting mine.

I'll have a look and take some better pics in the morning!

Ok thanks. I thought it looked like everything on yours was still connected....strange. As I said i was in two minds to either follow the K&N instrucations or the apexi ones. The apexi tells you to bung off the outlet on the engine and a mate I have has a typhoon that follows the same install.

Just drive 30 miles to work with no problem too.

Look forard to the pics gaz, thanks again.

Ill post some of mine up here tonigh too.

These bungs have been the cause of much anguish! If they are put on wrongly then the warning lights appear on the dash, that’s easy to fix with an ECU reset, but the whole vacuum pipe thing isn’t very well explained in any of the instructions.

Am i correct in saying that the bung is direct on the engine for your typhoon kit?

I'll take some detailed pics tonight and post em here for you all to take a look. The apexi instruction do not refer to the vacume switching component (brown connector) anywhere.

Is that the Fujitsu kit? Or whatever it's called.... It's exactly the same fittings as the typhoon I think, although that looks as though it will stretch the MAF wires more. The part you circled is attached to a bracket under the intake pipe on the K&N. But if you look closely it's attached to that black bracket just behind on that one. (I think......)

hi yes that is the fujita kit, its only quite cheap and id prefer it to the K&N and the Apexi i think. but not if it screws the maf wires, damn.

Read my post about extending the wires and do the job properly. :)
