Avensis D4d Problems

Hello,

I have Toyota Avensis D-4D, 2000 - first gen after facelift, 171000 km and currently I'm dealing with two problems:

1. after replacing wheel bearings few months ago, strange knocking sound comes out from left front side of vehicle during turning to the right especially while driving downhill or uphill but only between 30-45 km/h speed and not full right turning. I've checked brakes, discs also visited Toyota dealer - they've checked steering, stabilizer, and axle(outer) joints-everything was OK.

2. sometimes (often these days :) ) car starts with difficulties-longer then normal. Car then after 2200 rpm looses turbo power and fuel consuption during acceleration goes up(twice) and after 4-6 kms check engine light goes up. I turned motor then off and started again. When car starts smoothly everything is ok-no power loose, no engine light. I went to Toyota dealer, they've said it was random error - low fuel pressure - and cleared error. Then light after one week went on again. So it could be anything-from fuel injectors, valves to fuel pump and fuel quality...

Has someone ever solved similar problems?

  • 3 weeks later...

To my problems:

1. Finally it turns out to be left outer axle joint.

2. The problem get worst - when I tried to turn the motor off and on short after driving, it was practically impossible to start (need about 15 sec turning!) and check engine light stayed on. So now diagnostic showed faulty valves of injection pump. After their replacement car starts and accelerates fine.
