Overheating

Help, Cleica ST205 1996, v nice, lots of miles but still going strong.

I have noticed recently it seems to be running warmer than normal, fan coming on lots and even on the motorway at this time of year it's running just below half on the temp gauge.

I thought it might be the water pump or the rad not doing their jobs properly but not sure how to chek these out. Anyone got any other ideas or ways of finding out what the problem is. Have used this forum in the past and always found that people are v helpful.

Any advice greatly received...

you could have a slight blockage somewhere in the cooling system. Might be worth flushing it out and a coolant change - certainly can't do any harm .

are you sure it's an ST205 that is the GT4. if so check your charge-cooler coolant level as it may be low leading to higher than average inlet temps which will increase the overall running temp of the engine

Have you lost any coolant at all?

GT4 rads have a nasty habit of starting to leak, it can start off as a fine mist, then one day it will all go. With the engine running, check to see that you have not got any leaks from it.

A coolant flush and change is a great suggestion

Check all your hoses, its not uncommon for a hose to collapse internally and reduce coolant movement.

Apologies to all its an ST202 not the GT4, I wish, lovely piece of metal. Anyway I will endeavour to check the hoses and give it a coolant system flush. Not entirely sure but I presume it's just like changing the coolant, is there any flushing involved and if so what is the best way of doing this. Your help is much appreciated. Much better and cheaper than the local Toyota garage! My god that place gives my wallet a coronary every time I even drive past.
