Air Con Compressor On D4d

Hi all,

Recently bought an 04 Plate D4D T-Spirit. Although I hadnt noticed when I bought the car, the Air con didnt work. It would light up but no cold air or any sounds from the engine bay. Last week got it re-gassed but still nothing. Checked all the fuses, everything seems ok. .....So off to Mr T it was this morning. Got an estimate this afternoon for £971 to replace the Air con Compressor as ( quote from Toyota) "REQS NEW AIR CON COMPRESOR REF CLUTCH HUB HAS SNAPPED OFF £971.17....Ouch!!

I then spoke to the garage I bought the car from and the guy has point blank refused to pay this amount but has said he has a guy that can re-condition the unit...

My question- Can it be re-conditioned? Also where do I stand on this re: the garage warranty- Should I be insisting that It Must be repaired at Toyota or will a reconditioned unit be just as good?

At the moment I have posted the estimate to the garage, awaiting for his reply.

Any help on the matter would be appreciated.

and Sorry for the long Post... :D

Sorry but I just can't see you getting him to stump up £971, think the best you can hope for is for him to get it fixed for you. That might be a recon compressor or even a second hand one. I think it will probably be that or nothing.

Quite understandable Q.S, but another problem I have is the garage being nearly 60 miles away from where I am.. will wait and see what his response is and post it...One way or another, as long as it gets fixed, I think I'll be happy.. I am also thinking of obtainingan estimate from an Air con reconditioning place in manchester- just to get a quote and see if he will pay up for that.it will certainly save me the trouble of driving 60 miles or so up the motorway.. Does anyone know of a good place pls? One that can be trusted to do a good job too???
