Sti Cabriolet Now A Gt ? !

I Have just bought a 91, H reg Celica in October.

This I was told was the STI model Cabriolet.

It looks great and drives a dream ( if not a little slower than I was expecting from a 2.0 L.)The Car is obviously a JAP import as there is no UK cabriolet model - yet when I recieved the logbook I have been told that the car is offically registered as a GT not and STI!

The car is quite clearly not a GT cause it has a soft top... This is fine with me as it brings the insurance right down -- but I have no idea why this has happened

Is it due to the fact that Import STIs are classed as GTs once they hit the UK ????

I havent seen another cabriolet gen 5 in the UK so if anyone has any ideas on why this happened let me know - Cheers guys

(also I had a golf GTI before the Celica and the GTI seemed a hell of a lot quicker than this - is there something that wears out on Celicas that drops there performace as my acceleration is nothing to what I thought it would be)

the one thing you will have to remember that the soft top will be a lot heavier than the coupe for obvious reasons...

The standard GT should hit 60 in about 8 sec...

ohh.. and just to let ya know.. the Front fogs i have came with the car when i purchased it...The yellow light seems to have grown on me...

What engine model is in it? Should be some letters on the left side of the engine block near the cambelt cover. If it's 3sge then thats the same engine as a UK GT.

Insurers are (mostly) clueless when it comes to imports so they usually classify them as a GT for underwriting purposes. However if your cabriolet has a different engine to the UK GT I'd ask it to be changed. I guess it could have a 3sfe like the Celica ZR which is more similar in power to the UK ST.
